Oh, well some songs from each album could fit on the other, but 2-3 songs having a similar sound is hardly grounds to say the both albums sound the same. esp when they both have 16 songs. and I already said 1989 wasn't progressive it's just really good pop music that's well crafted and has a somewhat unique sound compared to what's popular rn.
off the top of my head, some of the full fledged mainstream pop albums released this decade are probably:
Born This Way
The 20/20 Experience (Part I)
1989
BEYONCÉ
X (Ed Sheeran) *
21
Bangerz *
Unorthodox Jukebox *
Red *
Born to Die *
* = more arguable/debatable
These albums had well crafted music and had sounds that weren't commonplace in pop music at the time of their release, while also successfully progessing the individual artist's own sound imo.

nope, I never said the two albums sounded exactly the same, just that some of the songs have a similar sound and that's why 1989 isn't progressive or even new to mainstream music. It just uses the 80's sound like a lot of other records have been using in the last years.
