Empire is decent, but not really worthy of all the praise it's gotten.
We're 4 episodes in and we're still on the same 2 storylines. Jamal being a gay, and the father wanting to have a son replace him.
There's nothing new. & every episode has the same set-up it seems. The ex-wife bursts into one of his meetings to start some mess for the episode, while the gay continues to decide if he should come out, and the other 2 brothers have some dumbass 5 minute plot.

"Empire" is absolutely awful. Just put it on BET with the rest of the awful shows. The only reason critics have given "Empire"
a little bit of praise is because they don't want to seem racist. But "Empire" is awful. The music is awful. The characters are awful. The storylines are awful. The only thing decent about "Empire" is the acting, but that's not going to save that awful series. Between Tyler Perry's films/shows and Lee Daniels' "Empire," I kind of want to say that gay black male writers should have their hands cut off. It's not a hate crime, it's just a preventative measure to ensure that they can't write any more cheesy, awful, clichéd, operatic films and shows that only black 45-year-old women from the red states watch.
