I just watched Begotten! It was cool.. Or let me rephrase that: it was "interesting" to look at but other than that I really didn't like it.. And it was too long, imo :/
Also, not too long as in it was too lengthy in general - but in a sense that it would've been better as a short film.
Begotten is either the most artistic or the shittiest "horror movie" I've ever seen. Loved it.
It was ******, out of those two choices of being artistic and ******.
After 15 minutes it felt like the guy who made this movie was just trying to make something controversial. It was "gross" just for the sake of being gross.

A couple is at home when they are attacked my psychopath killers, who torture and then kill them. The reason? No ****ing reason. Just because they were home. You know these kind of people do actually exist. Psycho killers. How many reports of murderers do we get daily? These killers were actually realistic. Not superhuman, flesh eating, monster type of killers. Like, actual psychopaths.
This movie is as realistic and raw as it gets with horror. It makes you think what if that was you? There are so many things happening around us that we don't see. When im staring in the front, i have no idea what's behind me. Imagine how scary this is. Not knowing what's behind you. I'm not saying there's a killer or a monster behind you, but it IS a possibility since you can't see. And that scene with Liv and the Doll Face killer appearing like that from behind and just watching her was so effortlessly effective, as it showcased what i have stated above.
Also, the characters that were being attacked weren't a couple of super heroes who magically turn into killing machines when something bad is happening, like most horror films. They were regular, normal people. Like you, like me.
Sorry for my long ass, deep analysis. I'm high and i'm going through an overload of thoughts right now.
But what was the whole "knocking on the door asking if [insert name] was home?".
Speaking of The Human Centipede, what happened with the third one? Even though as horror films go, neither of the first two break the barriers of substantial watching, the cult viewing effect makes me intrigued to see whatever comes next.
Going to watch Begotten too, whenever I get the chance. Last time I watched a horror film and felt physically scared, to the point I had a prolonged fear going about daily activities, was probably The Poughkeepsie Tapes. Recommend it to anyone. I haven't dared to watch it again after the first time.
Sorry if I sound rude, I'm just very sceptical to the whole movie.
Well the director was inspired by a childhood memory of people going to houses, asking if someone was home and then breaking into them if it was empty. The Manson Murders was another influence, which was literally a "family" deciding to kill people for no apparent reason. Something doesn't have to be happening frequently for it to be realistic and adaptable to a film/other works.
As far as the ending, most serial killers had a torture phase of some sorts. Instilling fear into their victim. You also need to realize this is a movie. If they did what you suggested here, there'd be no movie. It's like asking why Ghost Face called his victim's first, then decided to chase and kill them. Open your imagination a bit.

You just gave me my movie for the night!
I was going to watch Begotten, but my movie buddy isn't in the mood, so I'll put it to the side until tomorrow night, hopefully.
