Billboard.com:
Kelly Clarkson On Track For Second No. 1 Album
March 12, 2009
by Keith Caulfield, L.A.
It looks like Kelly Clarkson will score her second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 next week, as her fourth release, "All I Ever Wanted" (19/RCA/RMG), led Nielsen SoundScan's March 11 Building chart.
Industry prognosticators suggest the set should sell as much as 200,000, but caution the number could increase depending on how her assorted TV performances through release week will affect the album's start.
Clarkson played Fox's "American Idol" last night (March 11) and visits NBC's "Saturday Night Live" on March 14. On Tuesday, March 10, she performed on ABC's "Good Morning America."
The album's first single, "My Life Would Suck Without You," spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in February thanks to its strong out-of-the-gate digital sales. This week, it rises to No. 12 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart dated March 21.
Clarkson's last release, 2007's "My December," bowed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 291,000. It has sold 788,000 in the U.S. to date. Clarkson's previous chart-topper came with her first album, "Thankful," which bowed atop the list with 297,000 on the tally dated May 3, 2003.
Billboard estimates the seven merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart -- Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, iTunes, Starbucks, Borders, Target and Anderson Merchandisers -- comprise about 60% of all U.S. album sales. The March 11 Building chart reflected unweighted sales through the close of business on Tuesday, March 10.

they take into consideration the fall in the sales during the subsequent days in the week. I'm pretty sure that they estimate the fall by taking the industry average, observed over the years. 7-day multiplication was a wrong answer.

Yeah, I was hoping for at least 300k, but with how low sales are in our current economy, I'm not surprised. :-/ I hope that she ends up selling more though.

So the prediction for HDD was 220k-250k, and Billboard says 200k. So, like I said this will be a Janet situation, just with a hit first single despite it's rather pathetic sales. And if "I Do Not Hook Up" stays the 2nd single, it will only seal the fate of the album.
Not to mention, that Idol performance was NOT appealing.

LOL Rico, you're so righteous all the time. IDNHU isn't the best single choice, but it's still a good choice, much better than "Rock With U" or "Can't B Good." And all of Kelly's album's have debuted in the 200k range so I think she's doing just fine considering her 1st single being underwhelming.

No they didn't. It was 300k, and that was in reference to what they expected before the album even went on sell. And it wasn't almost 500k, it was 505k.

HITS original prediction of Britney was 425-450k, then by Friday it went up to 470-490k, then on Tuesday when the chart published, it was really over 500k.
So ONE-Days are often not completely accurate.

1st) HDD said that EARLY predictions before its release had it around 300k, but from first day sales that total could be ALOT higher, and then later they predicted like 450-475k, then she got 505k in the end
2nd) Britney is a much bigger artist and has more hype
3rd) This isnt the holiday season...
Anyways i hope Kelly can get AT LEAST 250k.

When an album is predicted to sell an amount of copies in a first week based on it's first day sales, and it ends by selling less (like Kelly's now), it means the album is not going to do as well as everyone is hoping in the following weeks. I think. I got this idea after 'Here I Stand'.

Kelly's known for her longevity so I hope she'll follow up that 200k+ debut with lofty sales...

With sales geting lower every day .. I don't think that's possible. Predictors keep lowening their predictions, looks like sales are declining already.
