Take Boyhood. Its premise centres on nostalgia and reliving those past experiences of your childhood that made you, you. Some people don't want that. They don't want to be nostalgic about the past because it just may not have been the best environment growing up or their childhood was plagued by unfulfilled expectations/demands.

And seeing movies like that, where the child went through a relatively stress-free time, with a few obstacles, that can render the observer resentful or jealous of his scenarios.

I wonder if Linklater also spent time shooting his daughter, in a 'Girlhood' type of film. I'd find that more interesting just to see how the dynamics changed over the years. I loved the fact Patricia's character could be shown as being autonomous, despite the choices in men.

Boyhood concept is brilliant for sure, sometimes it actually felt like you were really watching those people grow old and that you were following their lifes closely kinda like a reality show but besides that I felt those divorces and her relationships with men were too much, too soap operaish, i wouldnt put it in the same level as avatar tho, that one is a F

it was crucial, I agree, but it shouldn't be taken into the consideration if we're talking about whether the film should get the best picture award or not, cause it would be pretty unfair to other movies that weren't shot over such course, imo
