Unconditionally: Not a good single choice. Chorus was too clunky; didn't connect with GP; was released with the album... and it didn't stand out enough in a busy fourth quarter. Got easily overshadowed by DH.
Birthday: Terrific single choice and insanely smashable. Received okay radio support (I only heard it once/twice tbh) but horrendous video (literally voted the worst of 2014) killed it. People were here for the song tho; see the lyric video's views.
This Is How We Do: Trash song. Even goldsoundz said it wasn't in the top EIGHT on HitPredictor. Dead on arrival. Didn't completely flop because of the excellent video.
None of this was Katy putting out a bona fide smash and radio and GP completely ignoring it. Her singles campaign was just messily handled.

I wouldn't say Birthday was a "terrific" choice at all. But each to their own. Video killed it, but it was already dying. Radio gave it amazing support the GP weren't buying.
TIHWD flopped because of Birthday's flopping. Obviously it wouldn't be a hit on HitPredictor or whatever after Birthday was a "guaranteed smash" and it went nowhere. It low-key smashed in Australia. The chart-peaks here are based on iTunes so it's kinda unreliable but it's had steady sales and it's on the radio a lot still.
I agree the singles were messily handled. Handled better each and everyone one of these songs could have been Top 10 hits, lbr.
TOTGA had a good video though. It had the young scenes which were pretty happy a la Teenage Dream.
can some of you guys stop? im relatively new to this base, and at first i thought, "oh a lot of them like to poke fun at katy and her mistakes whether it be her singles or vocals." And I agree the good sis needs to let the light in when it comes to her live Roar vocals, but at the same time, there's a line. I see some people saying she's over, no ones going to be here for her, she's fading and she knows it, etc. Uhm, she's our fav?????? Again, I understand poking fun here and there, but some members here are SO pessimistic, and aren't even being sarcastic. Our girl, the girl next door we love, is playing the Superbowl. Stop saying she's delusional or going to kill her career, thats ridiculous and quite frankly: mean. How the heck are we going to put up with crap from other stanbases when half the Kats dont even respect our fav in the Base the past few pages. She knows what shes doing, we love her for it, now respect her artistry and just chill. If you dont like what shes been doing THAT much then the Monster Base is next door, I'm sure they'd love to have some of you guys.....
If anything, TIHWD proved that she can smash with a trash song.
5th single from a dead era, after her biggest flop ever, without radio support or promotion and still got some certs around the world + 300m streams. And all that with literally trash.
But CG/LFN/Roar/DH's image sucess really affected her awareness. She needs to change or at least tone it down quick.
You ARE blind if you doubt the fact that colorful, joyful performances aren't 100% Katy's thing. EVERYONE knows her as the light happy pop star and she BETTER play off that persona for an audience that big.
