This is another country-crossover smash that got away. I loved Bartender from the first listen, and the lyrics are totally relatable. I found myself singing along to the chorus nearly every time I heard this song, and it’s thanks to songs like this that country music made such a comeback for me in 2014. Not only is it easy to sing along to, but the elements of pop production are divine.

44. Neon Trees - Sleeping With a Friend
"All my friends, stay up past midnight / Looking for the thing to fill the void / I don’t go out much like I used to / Something ’bout the strangers and the noise / And why leave when I got you, baby?"

Neon Trees delivered their catchiest song in a while with Sleeping With a Friend. I have no idea how this gem of a song flopped when its flawless lyrics and production should have warranted that it become a sleeper hit like their previous singles. Nonetheless, I loved it, and this song restored my hope that this band can release material that is not annoying and contrived (see: Everybody Talks).

43. Jason Aldean - Burnin` It Down
"You slip your finger through the tear in my t-shirt / You stirrin' up dirty in the back of my mind... / We're just hanging around / Burnin' it down / Sippin' on some cold Jack Daniel's / Jammin' to some old Alabama with you, baby / Laying right here naked in my bed... / We about to get a little tangled up right about now / So girl let's keep burnin' it down"

Country music’s 2014 comeback continues at #43 with Jason Aldean’s first-ever entry on my year-end countdown. Burnin’ It Down is just a smooth song to listen to. I never even liked Jason Aldean’s music before, so I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this song for the first time and I liked it so much. Again, the pop elements of this song are fantastic.

42. Beyoncé - Partition (Dave Audé Extended Remix)
"Driver roll up the partition please / I don't need you seeing Yoncé on her knees / Took 45 minutes to get all dressed up / We ain't even gonna make it to this club / Now my mascara runnin', red lipstick smudged / Oh he so horny, yeah he want to ****... / I just wanna be the girl you like"

While the original version of Partition is too bare-bones for my liking, the Dave Audé remix really adds the fuel to the fire of Beyoncé’s lyrics. If the original version was more like this, it could have easily slayed pop radio and made her self-titled era even more incredible. I haven’t been this slayed by a remix of a song in a long time, and it proves production can go a long way in helping or hurting a song’s performance.

41. Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang
"She got a body like an hourglass, but I can give it to you all the time... / See anybody could be bad to you / You need a good girl to blow your mind, yeah... / She mighta let you hold her hand in school, but I'mma show you how to graduate... / See anybody could be good to you / You need a bad girl to blow your mind"

Two of the most impressive females in music and Jessie J teamed up for this unexpected and amazing collaboration. Jessie J has always had incredible vocals and Ariana Grande’s presence on this track only amplifies both of them to an even higher level. To top it all off, Nicki Minaj delivers a verse that drove the song to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Bang bang, indeed.
