Vocally, giving me like a classier more refined Demi Lovato. What? Banks her boring ass & her boring ass imagery.
69. Becky G - "Shower"
Becky snagging a smash hit and ATRL snagging an egg on its face.
68. Clean Bandit f/ Jess Glynne - "Rather Be"
Can't resist it.
67. Coldplay - "Magic"
Their album this year was OK, and its best moments came when Gwyneth Paltrow's husband channeled the OTHER big name ~indie bands of his choice, like on the lead single which saw the band getting their xx on.
Jeremih made moves catering to EVERYONE this year; nothing on his FREE ONLINE collaborative mixtape with experimental beatmaker Shlohmo was as good as the already released "Bo Peep" (check it), but it had its own share of captivating moments.
Not BEYONCÉ-style revolutionary, but just as lovely.
63. How to Dress Well - "Childhood Faith in Love (Everything Must Change, Everything Must Stay the Same)"
3rd shortest song on this album might have the longest song title on my countdown. But yeah there's like a childlike innocence/hopefulness floating around and I dig it.
62. Sia - "Chandelier"
AHHHHHHM GUNNA SWËËËNG
61. Hundred Waters - "Murmurs"
Got into the album too late for the big list, but like woah this is very...serene. <3 Yes toy with structure.
Coldplay and BOOTS are great. They could team-up and I wouldn't mind. Someone mentioned Muse's Madness in their Magic write-up, I could see the XX just as much.
A$AP kind of slipped through the cracks this year, but Multiply is great.
Tons of great tracks. "Shower" is amazing of course and I love Chandelier, Yellow Flicker Beat, Multiply, Chains (which is infinitely better than Jealous btw) etc.
Love the way they all fight each other for the spotlight. <3
58. ScHoolboy Q - "Break the Bank"
Very promising pre-album look at OXY, and its biggest/only "gonna enjoy myself now that I escaped the struggle" celebratory moment.
57. Sophie f/ Meghan Trainor - "Lemonade"
There's the contrast of the blippy electronics with the up-in-its-feels vocal part, but what I love the most is how its short length works to its benefit. B-side is "Hard" and I like that a lot too.
56. Todd Terje f/ Bryan Ferry - "Johnny and Mary"
Finally, words! Todd's dusky soundscape though adds just as much to the cumulative effect as his featured guest's narration of a relationship that's been breaking down for a while now.
No rapping, super chill, just one of those "glad I'm alive + it's the 90s and OutKast is
still releasing music" moments you might get when you're lying out under the stars.
Forward thinking r&b by way of the Wild Wild West. Swagging as ****. Perk of
being late = getting to shout out all these crazy end of year surprise releases.
53. K. Michelle - "Love Em All"
"I broke another heart today. And I didn't care I just walked away" -- yes OWN that ****! Stunning.
I have to scope out the rest of her album, but out of the ones I've heard so far, I love em all.
52. One Direction - "Fireproof"
It starts off like a Bon Iver song, lol. And then when they start singing you just wanna
believe they know everything there is to know about maintaining a relationship long-term.
51. Angel Olsen - "White Fire"
No ambiguity to this one. Devastating, and it never rises above a whisper.
49. A$AP Mob f/ A$AP Nast, Method Man - "Trillmatic"
"THAT'S A$AP METH. QUICK TO KILL EM THAT'S A A$AP DEATH."
48. Charli XCX - "Doing It"
Took some time to GROW on me. But woah, just packkkeddd w/ hooks. Could have
just as easily soundtracked The Fault in Our Stars as the other one. Nice panflute!
47. Panda Bear - "Mr Noah"
New Years Resolution: do drugs and watch this song's music video. Turned
me from a non-fan into really anticipating the full album out next week.
46. TV on the Radio - "Quartz"
Perfect opener that I think captures the gist of...seeds, and growth and such very effectively.
FIREPROOF!! Love Quartz, White Fire, West Savannah all very good too. Doing It is one of Charli's best yet she decides to ruin it by adding Rita Ora to the mix?? Oh well.
