Selena Gomez On The View

Selena Gomez appeared on The View this morning to talk about music, her gay fan base and her interest in charity work. The episode was pre-recorded as Selena was out of town, in Europe for her 7 Nights In Heaven trip.
Pieces of the interview below.
Rosie O: Today, we are here with a global superstar. Her most recent album ‘Fool’s Paradise’ is platinum and she is about to embark on 7 sold out concert dates, here is Selena Gomez!
Selena: Hello, hello!
Whoopi: So Selena, you’re current single is titled ‘What You See’, correct?
Selena: That’s right.
Rosie P: You wrote it, right?
Selena: Yes, I did.
Rosie O: Tell us a little bit about the song.
Selena: Well I wrote the song while I was staying in Santa Barbara for a while. I wrote it by myself and produced it with Hit-Boy.
Nicolle: You take on a very matriarch type role in the song, almost as if you’re a mother comforting her child. Where did that come from?
Selena: I think I’ve always been very protective of people, and I truly feel like my sole purpose in this world is to give positive energy and to be a good person so that’s sorted of what I wanted to give with this song.
Nicolle: Reports were saying that you wrote this song for the LGBT community, was this correct?
Selena: Somewhat. I definitely try to stay in tune with what’s going on in our culture and LGBT rights have definitely been a hot topic these past few years. I was hearing all these stories about gay and transgender suffering from bullying so the song initially started out as a song for the LGBT community. But it’s really a song that I wanted everyone who was maybe going through a bad situation to be able to relate too. People who really needed fighting for and strength and love. I edited some things to make it more general. I think a little bit more than the LGBT community, I had the global community in mind.

Rosie: You earlier mentioned how you were looking to get more involved in the global community. Can you explain what you meant by that.
Selena: Well when I say ‘global community’, I mean our world. Because we are all one global community.
Nicolle: Do you think people recognize that?
Selena: Not at all. I think a problem we have is we consistently look at problems in other parts of the world as “over there problems” and I think something I want to emphasize is that problems in our world are not “over there problems”. They are world issues that need people to pay attention to them. I also want to emphasize the fact that we, the young people of america, have so much powerful. We are one of the most powerful forces in the world, and we have some of the loudest voices in the world. And it’s almost like… how dare we, as the privileged voice having young people of america, not use our very loud voices to fight for those without voices, like in developing nations. We have so much, and are given are basic needs and more. But in these developing nations, people don’t get things like healthy meals and basic education.
Rosie: You seem very passionate about this.
Selena: I am. I have a project involving this where I get more specific on things coming soon.
She then performed her single 'What You See' in a Roberto Cavalli skirt and peasant top.
