Yeah I went super fast because I was aiming to be finished before 2015 but alas.

The Chemical Brothers (feat. Miguel) - "This Is Not A Game"

The last Hunger Games song I swear. This one ended up as my highest even though "Dead Air" was the one that hit me from first listen. It was a slow burner but I love the darker electronic production thanks to The Chemical Brothers, and the overall hectic, twisted feel. Miguel's voice feels almost strained at times which just adds to that atmospheric feel. Its such a landmark of a song for the soundtrack and i'm surprised but glad it ended up as my highest.

Taylor Swift - "Wildest Dreams"

Ha! Take that! I don't have to sacrifice my format anymore.

I've already mentioned how I view this song as Lana better than Lana but let's not drag her tew much . Instead, I'll talk about just how dreamy this song is and re-mention that HEARTBEAT OMG. Like I don't know why but it just means so much to me. This ended up as my highest played song of the entire year with 145 plays, but in the interest of not boring everyone who comments I decided not to do an entire Taylor Swift top ten (which it totally could have been).

Jamie xx - "Girl"

This ones very groovy, very sharp and a really cool beat. Its the perfect midnight (#stylecomingsoon) song and I was very surprised at how it captured my attention. Its the sort of song you'd expect to be somewhere in like the 50-40 range but it was such an addicting and interesting listen I ended up placing it this high!

Sharon Van Etten - "Your Love Is Killing Me"

LISTEN TO THIS RIGHT NOW. Its one of the biggest and best lyrical moments of the entire year. Not just an ordinary heartbroken song - this one runs deep. She talks about the pain that comes with heartbreak with such raw, genuine emotion it almost leaves you speechless.

Beyoncé (feat. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie) - "***Flawless"

NOT the dreadful remix. The original song is such an interesting take on modern/post-modern feminism and comes as one of the most innovative things anyone, pop-star or not, has done in recent memory. The hard-hitting trap beat, the bold, ferocious Beyoncé "Bow Down" attitude cut with an eloquently spoken speech and rounded off with new classic one-liners of "I woke up like this". To not put this on my list would be a crime.

Here's some hints:

1 Aside from one position from a new artist, all of the top ten is from people we've seen before in this list.
2 ONE artist has two songs in the top ten.
3 Four Male songs and Six female songs.
4 My #1 song has been my #1 song of the year since the moment I first listened.

Amazing list. I could never really get into Wildest Dreams though. It feels too much like a Lana song for me to enjoy it as a Taylor song, if that even makes sense.

I was kind of embarrassed, as a fan, the first time I heard it since I immediately thought of "Without You" by Lana but then I loved it by second listen..stan bias?.

Inside dish: "***Flawless" was in my 2014 Top 10 until "7/11" was released, but I chose "7/11" because it was actually released in 2014. In terms of impact, "***Flawless" probably had the biggest impact on me of any song in 2014, though. I think it's the song that Beyonce's entire career has been leading to. It's the culmination of what she's been trying to achieve for the last 15 years. Just amazing.

I love The Chemical Brothers and Miguel so This Is Not A Game just gets me. It's loud and abrasive and amazing.

Jamie and Taylor can just about do no wrong in my book.

I can't really get into Sharon, I tried with her last album Tramp. Maybe I'll try out the new one soon.

I'm not a big fan of ***Flawless. I like Bow Down/I Been On much more and think it's a much greater statement. It seemed to me like Bey didn't like the criticism she got for Bow Down, so explicitly spelled out her message with the feat. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie part, and that weakened the song imo. It's a banger though.
