9. Brand New - The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows
"So keep the blood in your head / And keep your feet on the ground / If today's the day it gets tired / Today's the day we drop out... / Wasting words on lower cases and capitals... / And though our kids are blessed / Their parents let them shoulder all the blame"
This song speaks for itself. In Brand New's second appearance on my Top 100 of 2013, "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" is truly an anthem. There's no other way to describe this song. It's about what's eating you alive that you can find no other way to bring yourself to speak about. Holding and hiding a secret can destroy you- this song is about keeping yourself grounded when your head is filled with lies and bombarded by the distractions of others.

9. Brand New - The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows
Same Love Mack was everywhere in 2013, I think my favorite song of his would be Thrift Shop though.
and I still think that Blurred Lines is a great song to be honest. it's funny how everyone suddenly turned into some sort of advocate against sexism when it became popular.
"I came in like a wrecking ball / I never hit so hard in love / All I wanted was to break your walls / All you ever did was wreck me..."
If Miley didn't slay you in 2013, you're lying. I've been a Miley fan since before Party In the USA came out, but Miley made me stan for her in 2013. Lyrically, Wrecking Ball is a damn honest, heartbreaking song. Visually, Miley slays like never before. This video is truly iconic. Though her antics have calmed down recently, 2013 was an incredible year for Miley. I can't wait to see what she does next.

8. Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball
"If it makes you less sad, I will die by your hand / Hope you find out what you are; already know what I am /
And if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again / You can tell me how vile I already know that I am... /
Call me a safe bet, I'm betting I'm not / I'm glad that you can forgive, only hoping as time goes, you can forget... /
You are calm and reposed / Let your beauty unfold / Pale white, like the skin stretched over your bones... /
You are second-hand smoke... Holding on to yourself the best you can / You are the smell before rain /
You are the blood in my veins..."
If you can't already tell by the paragraph of lyrics highlighted above, this song means a lot to me. It's all about falling for someone and doing everything you can to make them happy, no matter what. This song features some of the best metaphors I believe have ever been written and put to music. This is Brand New's second appearance in my Top 10 of 2013, third overall, off of their 2003 album, Deja Entendu.

Before Iggy Iggz was a mainstream lightning rod for success and criticism, she released this video, which ignited accusations of cultural appropriation. All I knew at the time was that this song slayed me- it was the first Iggy song I actually enjoyed. People constantly deride this as one of Iggy's worst songs, but it's one of my favorites. I remember getting my life from Bounce during finals week.

"And everyone in line in the bathroom / Trying to get a line in the bathroom... / Can't you see it's we who own the night? / Can't you see it's we who 'bout that life?"
As I implied previously, Miley slayedT and dominatedT 2013. This is her second appearance in my Top 10 of 2013 following Wrecking Ball at #8. We Can't Stop really got the ball rolling for Miley in 2013, especially as a drastic change in direction for her musically. The impact of this video was real: we watched it in my Sociology class. Unfortunately, Miley's momentum subsided in 2014 and she does not appear on my Top 100 of 2014. Two entries at #8 and #5 in 2013 is incredible though.
