Cara Delevingne had an interview with Billboard a few days ago confirming her comeback to the musical scene with a brand new single called 'La Belle', in which she raps about being on top of the world, being fabulous and making her haters mad. "The song is basically a therapy for me, a defense system" she said while describing it. "I just needed a song to show off you know? The whole album is about how the hate started to grow, how the media perceived me after my musical career started... I'm Not a rap artist, but rapping those lyrics sort of made me feel good" she added. The quotes were said during the MTV special that just aired, which was about an hour long. The special first aired a small documentary about Cara's musical career:
"After starting off in modeling, Cara Delevingne started off a music career in September 2013 with the release of the single 'Magazine' that would later reach the top of the charts after debuting at #7 on the charts. The follow up single 'Explicit' also reached the top 3, while her promotional singles 'Love Love Love' and 'Love My Devilish Body' peaked both within the top 10." The special started showing clips of performances of all the songs talked about. The special also showed clips of interview from the 'CARA' era speaking about how she felt about the music industry, her career, music and making it.
But the most important part of the special was probably the new unseen footage of Cara working on the brand new album 'Distant Horizon' out next week. The footage shows us clips from the recording process, as well as a homemade video of Cara writing up some of the first 'La Belle' lyrics down on a notebook. A clip of an EDM track being recorded is shown, but right in the middle of the session Cara just make sit stop: "Ok no, stop it, That's really not what I want to do anymore..." she says. This is probably from one of the first sessions of the album when the first themes and sound of the album got scrapped. Cara also comments throughout the special about the whole creative, writing and recording process behind the album, bringing in even more details for the fans and the General Public tuning in to the special.
Things got actually interesting when the music video was about to be released. A host from MTV sat down along with Cara and Cara introduced the music video before it aired: "Hey guys I'm Cara Delevingne and here's the worldwide exclusive premiere of the video of my new single 'La Belle' available n ITunes from my new album 'Distant Horizon'. The video will also be available on VEVO following the premiere."
The video starts off by showing Cara in a bath looking up to the camera with some heavy red lipstick on, a reference to her debut album's cover. The music instantly starts and Cara gets out of the bath fiercely, while the camera zooms out and shows us the setting: an old brick walled building. Cara puts on a fur coat and zips it up before putting on her lingerie bottom under it and walks out of the room. She is now in a brick walled corridor while people are standing on each side of the walls, some guys flirting with the girls. She walks between the different couples some randomly making out, others just fighting while others have some new relationships created. One of the guys starts flirting with Cra but she just gives him a 'goodbye wave' while rapping " Baddest bitch, baddest beauty/Can’t help that I’m good lookin’/All these bitches be lookin’, while another guy randomly attacks Cara but she punches him back fast enough to bring him down and she goes on walking fiercely out of the building. Right in front of the building Cara stands fiercely before doing a few moves, she's in a . A luxurious vintage black open roof car stops in front of Cara, the chauffeur gets out of his seat and opens up the door for Cara who gets into the car and sits down on the the top of the backseat's seats. The car starts moving into the roads of a city within the desert, the buildings are all made out of red bricks. While the car moves Cara raps "No boy ain’t gonna love me/If I ain’t got no money/They think I got tons of pennies/I only date out of pity", all around the street, people are looking at her, some screaming things while other just looking amazed. Cara just goes on rapping, the chauffeur not stopping. At the end of the video, Cara is standing in the middle of the desert after getting out of the car with a gun in her hand. She shoots up in the air. While the screen fades to black. Overall the 'La Belle' music video reminds us of Beyonce's 'No Angel' music video.
Host: We are back in the studio with Cara Delevingne, and this was the premier of the 'La Belle' Music video! Cara, could you explain us the video? Don't you think showing a gun in a video and just shooting could cause some controversy due to some recent events?
Cara: Well It wasn't the point at all, I'm absolutely against the real use of guns and I' here for the US to ban guns, and I think what happened with he Mike Brown case and other similar cases is just disgusting. The gunshot part was only about just doing whatever you want. You see the video starts with literally what was the cover of my debut album representing the release of the album. I get out into this corridor and people go by their business until I pass by, some attack me some like me, same thing goes on outside when I'm in the car. It just represents me getting some very different reactions from everyone. The car just doesn't stop, it just represents me moving ahead, looking to the future and moving on, because that's all I have to do. At the end, I just shoot in the air because, at the end of the day, I'll do whatever I want, whether people will like it or not.
Host: What more plans do you have for the song?
Cara: Well I'm releasing this remix of it with Mariah Carey which has been really amazing to do. We recorded the track in like barely anytime and right before it was released as we both have heavy schedules but we got to talk for some time and she was really nice. The verse she has twists the song into a more RNB sound, It was great working with a legend.
Host: You're album is released next week, tell us a bit about it. Who were the people you enjoyed working with for it the most?
Cara: It was great recording it even though I had a few issues with it at first. I enjoyed working with everyone who did the album, but like working with Charli XCX was so much fun because we were literally partying all the time while doing it.
Host: This was all the time we had, thank you for coming here Cara. Cara Delevingne's new single 'La Belle' can be purchased on ITunes now while the album 'Distant Horizon' is now available for pre-order and will be made available for purchase next week on January 3rd.
