Guess what, he'll be right, because the sky is blue. So bringing up old tweets to "reinforce" your argument is irrelevant and pointless because you can be wrong about one thing, and right about something not even related to it. Like

Did you just compare Azealia to a mass murderer? And you stan for that?

Plus we're arguing with walls. They'll defend Iggy is she commited homicide just because she has a number one song and a grammy nom.

lol
Except those two things are irrelevant to each other while social issues such as race and sexual orientation fall under the same umbrella. If one minority suffers, all minorities suffer because it's an infringement on civil rights. Encouraging homophobic language by using it is arguably WORSE than appropriating a culture.
And weren't you leaving like 5 posts ago?

Her Southern accent comes from popular voices in hip-hop being Southern (i.e. what she listened to as a kid), living in the deep South for five years and from what her mentor taught her. Five seconds of research could've found this for you.
You said no other rapper would say something like that. Tons of rappers say "shocking" things like that. The only difference is Iggy apologized for it.
But did you expect her to maintain an Australian accent? People hardly even sing with accents. Why would she rap with an Australian accent when there's no market for rap in Australia and she studied American hip-hop before living 5 years in the American South with a Southern tutor?
|
see this is what I have an issue with
lemme throw this out there, Tokio Hotel's Twin members moved to LA in their late teens/early 20s (around the same age iggy moved to america) Lived there for around 4 years +.and made their album in LA. if we're going to go by your explanation shouldn't they sing with an american accent? Talk with an american accent? They still sound all german sausage and ****
so idk where this 'studied american hip hop' with a 'southern tutor' comes in, like you can produce music in america, from a different country and not use an accent.

'thats pop/rock not rap'
GGAG where bill goes all kesha and ****, he still got his german accent

4. The voice is still offensive to some.

1. Her rapping voice. It's like how heavily accented singers learn to sing without an accent (see: Adele, ABBA, Ozzy Osbourne, etc.) but then speak with their original accents.
2. She listened to hip-hop as a kid and moved to the American South.
3. If you tried singing a Japanese song, you would use a similar regional accent to whomever you listen to. Try listening to Ayumi Hamasaki and then Shojo Jidai and tell me something doesn't seem off to you when you try to figure out the lyrics.
4. Too bad for them. I'm of the opinion that people should be proud that black culture is highly influential. **** me, though, right?

Not you trying to act enlightened but you've stayed subtweeting me this entire page I didn't say Azealia was doing what she was doing to profit; I said we won't know until she finds success. I said that we do know that she won't be happy as long as Iggy finds any level of success, which seems undeniably true.

I can pull up old tweets of Iggy too, but ya'll will discredit them by saying she apologized, but she only apologized for the "Slave Master" lyric.

And accent can be corrected with vocal training if needed. Pop artists from other countries generally sing in an American accent ready for pop radio. Just look at some music by artists like the Spice Girls and Kylie Minogue.
Also look at Madonna and her faux British accent that surfaces randomly from her brief period living in the UK.
I lived in Spain for a few months and my Latin American Spanish picked up a Spaniard Spanish accent.
Everyone adapts to language and their surroundings differently.

British singers singing in an American accent isn't the same as using an extremely exaggerated accent that's stereotypical of black people.
Picking up accents is fine, because you're using it when you're talking, and mostly 24/7. Not just when a beat comes on and then forgetting about it once the song ends.

The Spice Girls and Kylie Minouge do not sing in American accents. And that doesn't make what Iggy does okay.

And Tokio Hotel went where? They got some fanvoted VMAs, 0 WW hits and sold some 5M albums WW in a career that began in 2005. Their career was mostly limited to a German market, the only place their accent was truly marketable.
Do you see why Iggy would follow in the likes of Susan Boyle's, Adele's, ABBA's, Ozzy's, Amy Winehouse's, Phil Collins's, etc. lead and succumb to a dominant culture when trying to break in to a genre? What's so evil in her finding a way in to the genre? It's not like she doesn't cite Missy Elliott, T.I., Tupac, Eve, Trina, Lil Kim, etc. and pretend she created the genre.
