The tweet was definitely an album tease. Why would she even say "see you later in the year" to us? It's not like we've seen her either way you look at it. 
And after all of that press it got, someone from her team would have said that's not what she meant.
She just likely thought the album would be ready for the end of the year but decided to give herself more time.

I really think they are related. Like I could put "I think you're incorrect... She was going to release her album this year", and yes, they'd be two separate sentences but it is completely up to your interpretation and prior context (in this case this discussion, in the case of the tweet her previous album titles) to determine that they are in fact related and both have to do with the idea that I disagree with how you're interpreting this tweet.
The official sources you're citing, statements from XL that is (cowriters seem to have no idea), came out well after she made this tweet. This gives further merit to the idea that there was in fact a time, a time that existed on May 5, in which she was expecting to release her album this year.

She probably didn't meet Elton this year too, but she wrote him the same phrase at the end....

She said see you in 2015 to him though.
And again, after all of that press that tweet got, someone form her team would have denied that's what she meant by it, especially since she's been so tight lipped about the project and didn't seem to want too much hype to happen too early.

Yes, because the media started to push it on them! The questions started to rain in every possible and comfortable moment for the interviewers!
And let not forget her pre 21 announcements!

Personally I don't believe that she's going to release something in the next 7 days, because is holiday season and she's not working in these days, or would want anyone else to work!

Yes, she's not obligated to release the lead single within the next seven days, but her words will lost a bit of credibility and value to me.

She's obviously not releasing something this year, the tweet was premature on her part. But it was still a tease for the album.
She likely thought the album would be ready to release by the end of this year but she just decided it wasn't finished yet around October or whenever that report came out from XL.
However, I said this before, if she felt comfortable enough to tease the album for later in the year, the album must have been coming together pretty well at the time.
I do think we'll get something Q1. There's no way this album cannot be almost finished, especially if she's letting people to listen to everything she's recorded. That's usually what happens in the final stages of the album process. You do last minute writes to see if anything else comes up (like Don't You Remember did) and you start going back and listening to all of the stuff to start narrowing it down.

I'm not mad at her. 
She probably does feel a lot of pressure to deliver with this album and I'm willing to wait for it. I don't want her to come back and watch everything she did with 21 get destroyed by a mediocre, underwhelming album. Especially not after this wait.

So, why wait until October to deny it if the interpretation was wrong in May? Makes no sense. Adele hasn't truly been interviewed since what aired in June 2012, and her spokespeople can say "no comment" to whatever and whenever they want, so I doubt interviews were really their concern. XL snuck it into their turnover sheets at the very end of the year because that's the earliest they knew it wasn't going to come out, and didn't want the uproar that an even more public official statement by Adele that she's going back on her word, however small it was, would've caused.

If that's what you think, then why are you citing it in reference to what this tweet means? This was to everyone who follows her tweets (FANS!), was talking about 2014, and depending on your interpretation, was specifically referring to the reappearance of a 25, or the reappearance of her...both of which mean new music.
Nobody thinks she's releasing anything now, she should've released her single a couple months ago, but that's clearly not the plan like it was in May.
