61. Lily Allen - Hard Out Here
#60 Britney Spears - Work Bitch
"You wanna hot body? / You wanna Bugatti? / You wanna Maserati? / You better work bitch! / Go call the police! / Go call the governor!"
This song single-handedly saved the U.S. economy from its depression. This song single-handedly caused unemployment rates to plummet. This song promoted democracy in the United States as Britney urged her fans to get involved in politics. Britney, the Democratic Chanteuse. Stop working with will.i.am.
#59 P!nk feat. Lily Allen - True Love
"Sometimes I hate every single stupid word you say / Sometimes I wanna slap you in your whole face / There's no one quite like you / You push all my buttons down / I know life would suck without you / At the same time, I wanna hug you / I wanna wrap my hands around your neck..."
This song is all about how it feels when you know you have your true love. You hate them, but you still love them, and little if anything could ever make that change. The Lily Allen feature is truly inspired, and it was awesome to hear Lily on a track again before the release of Hard Out Here.
#58 Passenger - Let Her Go
"Well you only need the light when it's burning low / Only miss the sun when it starts to snow / Only know you love her when you let her go / Only know you've been high when you're feeling low / Only hate the road when you’re missin' home / Only know you love her when you let her go / And you let her go..."
This song is beautfiul. From the peaceful instrumental to the voice of lead singer Michael Rosenberg, everything about this song just makes you feel at peace. Letting go is never an easy thing to do, and Passenger's comparisons are truly fitting- you really can't help but sing along.
#57 Luke Bryan - That`s My Kind of Night
"All them other boys wanna wind you up and take you downtown / But you look like the kind that likes to take it way out / Out where the corn rows grow, row, row my boat / Floatin’ down the Flint River, catch us up a little catfish dinner / Gonna sound like a winner, when I lay you down and love you right / Yeah, that’s my kind of night"
What could be said about this song? It's such a guilty pleasure. I usually don't indulge in country songs as much as I enjoyed this one, but Luke Bryan has a swagger about him that is truly captivating. This is actually the first Luke Bryan song I've really liked, and you'll see more of him on my Best of 2014 countdown as well.
#56 Katy Perry - Unconditionally
"Oh no, did I get too close? / Oh, did I almost see what's really on the inside? / All your insecurities / All the dirty laundry / Never made me blink one time... / I will love you unconditionally"
Unconditionally really should not have been the second single off Prism. I adore the lyrics and the message of Unconditionally, and Katy serves emotional rawness on this flawless ballad. Unfortunately, Dark Horse was waiting in the wings to slay us all, and Unconditionally did not live to see its full potential.
I need to check out the rest of Passenger's discography sometime Thanks for the comment!

60. Britney Spears - Work Bitch
59. P!nk feat. Lily Allen - True Love
58. Passenger - Let Her Go
57. Luke Bryan - That's My Kind of Night
56. Katy Perry - Unconditionally
"All eyes on us... / I wanna scream and shout, and let it all out / And scream, and shout, and let it out"
When this song leaked, I really detested it. My opinion improved as I listened to this song more and more and was slayed by Britney's British inflection. The video slays as well. Not much can be said about this song lyrically, but it's a fun, carefree song that serves its purpose. It also proves Britney can get a hit single with will.i.am.
#54 Phillip Phillips - Gone, Gone, Gone
"You're my back bone / You're my cornerstone / You're my crutch when my legs stop moving / You're my head start / You're my rugged heart / You're the pulse that I've always needed... / I'll love you long after you're gone, gone, gone"
This song deserved to be a hit. After the success of Home, it seemed probable that Phillip would smash again with Gone, Gone, Gone. It was a moderate hit at best, but the song evokes feelings for the person you love. You'll love them forever, they're your world, and nothing can change that.
#53 Blake Shelton feat. Pistol Annies & Friends - Boys `Round Here
"Yeah the boys 'round here / Drinking that ice cold beer / Talkin' 'bout girls, talkin' 'bout trucks / Runnin' them red dirt roads out, kicking up dust / The boys 'round here / Sending up a prayer to the man upstairs / Backwoods legit, don't take no **** / Chew tobacco, chew tobacco, chew tobacco, spit"
WHY is this song so catchy?? Every bro-country song seems to follow the same formula, and it's amazing how well they work. Easily one of the best country songs of 2013, Blake Shelton snags his second-highest peak on my year-end countdown. Honey Bee's #49 peak in 2011 remains his highest-charting song.
#52 Hot Chelle Rae - Hung Up
"And I'm like, yeah / Everything you heard is true / Everybody knows I'm hung up on you"
Gone are the days Hot Chelle Rae could slay with a ballad. Bleed remains Hot Chelle Rae's best overall song, but Hung Up is a lot of fun. Hung Up serves as a double entendre, which makes the song seem just a bit scandalous. Still waiting for their next album though.
#51 Frank Turner - Recovery
"And on the first night we met you said "Well darling, let's make a deal. / If anybody ever asks us, let's just tell them that we met in jail." / So darling, sweet lover, won't you help me to recover... / Darling, sweet lover, one day this will all be over"
I discovered this song as one of iTunes' Free Singles of the Week. It's different from what I usually listen to, but the songwriting is fantastic. This song has a cool vibe highlighted by acoustic guitar and some unconventional lyrics. I bought his album but I never listened to it.
Anyone have predictions for the artists who will slay in the Top 50??
