100. Avril Lavigne - Hello Heartache

96. The Wanted - We Own the Night

93. Vampire Weekend - Diane Young

89. Ke$ha - Crazy Kids
88. Mariah Carey & Miguel - #Beautiful
87. Katy Perry - By the Grace of God
86. Avril Lavigne - You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet
#85 Drake feat. Majid Jordan - Hold On, We`re Going Home
"I got my eyes on you / You're everything that I see / I want your high love and emotion, endlessly / I can't get over you / You left your mark on me / I want your high love and emotion, endlessly"
I love when Drake serves this type of music. Like Take Care, it's beautifully simplistic, the beat is chill and even uplifting. The lyrics evoke an emotional connection. This song reminds you of the person who left a mark on your life, when all you see is the good. Even if you know some bad is in them, you don't care.
#84 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton - Can`t Hold Us
"Labels out here / Now they can’t tell me nothing / We give that to the people / Spread it across the country... / Tonight is the night, we’ll fight 'til it’s over / So we put our hands up like the ceiling can’t hold us"
The insanely catchy second single from The Heist marks the first of three appearances by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on my Top 100 of 2013. I'm genuinely looking forward to see what these two are able to serve in their next era. This song owes its position mostly to radio airplay.
#83 Florida Georgia Line feat. Nelly - Cruise (Remix)
"Baby, you a song / You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise... / In this brand new Chevy with a lift kit / Would look a hell of a lot better with you up in it"
Florida Georgia Line made the bro-country trend somewhat likeable in this smash hit crossover single. Sometimes I hated that this chorus would get stuck in my head, but it features the elements of a quintessential bro-country chorus: girls and cars. You could not escape this song in the Summer of 2013. Country music could do better than these guys though.
#82 AWOLNATION - Sail
"Maybe I should cry for help / Maybe I should kill myself / Blame it on my A.D.D. baby / Sail..."
This slow-burner stands in stark contrast in the previous hits on the list, Can't Hold Us and Cruise. This song may have its position thanks to the fact that radio didn't overplay it. The lyrics and the beat are haunting- and the video makes this song stand out as well. The definition of a sleeper hit.
#81 Britney Spears - Perfume
"So I wait for you to call / And I try to act natural / Have you been thinking ’bout her or about me? / And while I wait I put on my perfume / Yeah, I want it all over you / I'm gonna mark my territory / I’ll never tell, tell on myself but I hope she smells my perfume"
Britney, Britney, Britney. Your era was a mess, girl. This song is a highlight. Britney's first pop ballad sent to radio since Everytime in 2003, Perfume showcases some of the vocal ability Britney can serve on a track. Even my mother, a Britney hater, loved this song. You can still slay, Britney. Act like you want to.

#80 Mike Posner - The Way It Used to Be
"Even stars they fade / And colors turn to grey / I miss yesterday / And the way it used to be / And I can't turn back time / Even if I tried / I miss you tonight / And girl I miss the way it used to be"
How did this flawless song not smash? I want whoever is responsible for promoting Mike Posner to be fired due to gross negligence. This song should have slayed. Don't believe me? Listen for yourself. The verses are cute, the chorus is everything, and the BEAT. It's been a year and I'm still pressedT this song didn't smash.
#79 Sara Bareilles - Brave
"You can be amazing / You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug... / Say what you wanna say / And let the words fall out / Honestly, I wanna see you be brave"
Sara Bareilles sure is brave for being signed to Epic Records. This song makes a statement: don't be scared. Fear always holds people back, and this song serves to inspire people to rise above their fear and overcome what scares them. Sara is abundantly talented as a songwriter, and she deserves much more success.
#78 Imagine Dragons - Demons
"When you feel my heat / Look into my eyes / It’s where my demons hide / It’s where my demons hide / Don’t get too close / It’s dark inside / It’s where my demons hide / It’s where my demons hide"
Eh, this song didn't have much staying power. That being said, it's one of the more enjoyable Imagine Dragons songs, in my opinion. It honestly tackles a difficult subject: we all have our demons within us, and we must acknolwedge them and seek the help of others to defeat them.
#77 The Front Bottoms - Push-Ups
"If you wanna know why, I'm not sleeping tonight / It's because I'm scared you will never know / All the reasons why, I'm about to cry / The way I feel inside, the way I feel inside"
This song, much like Demons, tackles a difficult topic honestly. Body image can be one of the most difficult things a person has to deal with, and when coupled with feelings for another person, these emotions of inferiority can be difficult to navigate.
#76 New Politics - Harlem
"I spend my money on the regular miracles / Just like you, like me, like everybody else... / When it gets loud, I turn it up / Shake it like a bad girl up in Harlem"
New Politics is one of my favorite bands. They've been approaching mainstream success with their first single, Dignity, and this track, Harlem. Their second single, Tonight You're Perfect, made a pretty significant dent on Hot Adult Contemporary radio. I hope this band breaks through soon.
And in a couple of hours I'll post a new feature shining a spotlight on some new artists I hope you'll listen to!
99. Katy Perry feat. Juicy J - Dark Horse - I hope this one makes it again this year

95. Pitbull feat. Ke$ha - Timber - I'm more interested actually on the featured artist tbh.
94. One Direction - Best Song Ever - Not their best song but still a bop.
92. Zedd feat. Hayley Williams - Stay the Night - I love Hayley and this is a great EDM track.

88. Mariah Carey & Miguel - #Beautiful - If only Mariah release songs like this more.
87. Katy Perry - By the Grace of God - This one's okay but not really my fave from her.
81. Britney Spears - Perfume - The only decent track from Britney Jean

Thank you I'm glad you like Harlem! You'll like the New Artist Spotlight then
Stay tuned for the New Artist Spotlight, coming up next!
Finding new music is always exciting. In my previous update from my Top 100 of 2013, you (hopefully) heard "Push-Ups" by The Front Bottoms, a band from New Jersey, and "Harlem" by New Politics, a band from Denmark. The Front Bottoms are an indie band with a devoted following. New Politics are much closer to the cusp of mainstream success- their 2013 single "Harlem" (above, #76) peaked at #110 (#10) on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles Chart, and they have a presence on U.S. Alternative Radio. Both bands have a distinctive sound that I feel fit right on the edge of pop/alternative playlists. Think of the alternative acts that pop radio latches onto every year- one of these bands could very well be chosen by pop radio for future success in the coming years. If you like what you hear, The Front Bottoms most recently released an album titled Talon of the Hawk, and New Politics released their album A Bad Girl In Harlem in 2013, which also features the single "Tonight You're Perfect."
If you're in need of new music to start off 2015, I highly recommend checking out these two bands below. They're not exactly the typical pop music found on ATRL, but you may find some lyrical similarities.
You Oughta Know: The Front Bottoms
You Oughta Know: New Politics
Some more mainstream artists + pop girls will appear when the 2013 recap continues, later!
