America didn't start hating her until she adopted that baby. Sure, radio blacklisted her with American Life, but the baby was the turning point when people started finding her annoying.

I googled "When did Madonna" to find out what year she adopted but before I could type "adopt" google suggested "die."

The music industry, unlike the more ethical and esteemed film industry, is made up of antisemitics. It is no surprise that an album that had a song/music video glorifying nazis would be praised. It wasn't too far apart, but I remember some distinct loathing of her occurring after that video. The album didn't even go platinum and barely outsold ARTPOP's total in the States.

Also, Confessions only went platinum despite it selling over 10 million copies WW and spawning a massive #1 smash all over the world that peaked in the Top 10 before dropping out immediately. Her career in the U.S. would never be the same, especially since she did all of this crap in the middle of the Bush administration when the brainless Midwesterners were proving how influential and powerful they could be.
