I still don't think the no video thing is valid. Dark Horse hit #1 on BB without a music video, and Don't Tell Em hit top 10 without a music video to this very date. Even DWUW did better without a music video

Some songs need to be pushed, especially if not supported by radio. Both DH & DWUW were by high-profile artists and I believe DTE had big airplay.
Of course, huge songs can be hits without video/promo/airplay but most need some kind of exposure.
It had a slight chance of going Top 10 with a good video, but she really screwed up with not shooting the video yet. By January it will be way too late.
Beg For It isn't a hit, even a moderate one. Those usually peak at like #8 on BB.
It was an underperforming lead which killed all her career momentum. She's clearly nothing without a female popstar singing her choruses, no offense. 'Work' could've changed that, but alas.

I define a moderate hit as 1x platinum and usually top 20 peaking. A #8 hit, especially if its 2x platinum or more is a HIT
LA Love should have been a hit but Fergie is clearly too old for pop radio (cut off is 33) and it came out just as the DJ Mustard wave was ending.
Gwen's situation is even worse. To think that these 2 were huge in the mid '00s....

I wouldn't say there's a cutoff. Eminem slayed with The Monster, it was #1 for over a month on pop.
