You're a hundred percent right, but Katy has never commanded pop culture to the level that Bey, Brit, or Gaga have. So I think that's what he's saying. Her number one success is STILL based on her music, which is good. She's very well rounded.

Yep, pretty much. Although Bey has always been about the music until as of late.

Then it was only a matter of years before her downfall. Gaga was polarizing from the beginning and had about as many years of success as Brit did from 2007-2011
Being a non-controversial person means nothing about exploring and expanding musically, hence why Kelly and P!nk continue to grow and have very highly reviewed albums.
Nothing about the DH video was controversial other than the scene they swiftly edited out. And what musical success has Katy had? What about being the NUMBER ONE female of 2014, the #1 streaming artist of 2014, and the #1 radio artist of 2014? In what world is that anywhere near a flop, or even underperformance. It's not Teenage Dream but it's still better than any other pop girl in 2014

I didn't say she didn't have success in her era, I said lately. That would mean from TIHWD to now. At most, from Birthday to now. Most of those BB titles are due to Dark Horse, PRISM, and a little bit of ROAR.
And she doesn't have to be controversial, nor do I want her to turn into this dominatrix type of popstar/an ATRLer's fantasy. I simply want her to continue along the lines of Dark Horse. Make music that's fresh, and shows a new aspect of her instead of the same old "Oh she's so cute" Katy. And Kelly and P!nk don't evolve at all, but I'm not gonna go into that. You should remember that Katy doesn't have their image and their vocals so I'm not sure why you want her to follow their footsteps. Sounds like a recipe for tragedy.
She should find other aspects of her as an artist and not get stuck in the same old aspect forever.
And last time I checked Britney had continuous success and #1 hits from 2007 to 2012. That's 5 years, almost as long as Katy's career. So if anything, she should take a page from Britney's book not Kelly's who hasn't had an album that outsold Femme Fatale since Breakaway.
