Politics slay though. Everyone will complain about the Government they have but be unable to have anything to back them up, and half didn't even vote. If you didn't vote you have no right to complain whatsoever
If voting wasn't compulsory here, I think the winning party would win on less than a hundred votes
Our government is way too lenient with them, although the new government is finally starting to crack down on the illegal arrives. A hard line approach is what's needed. They get more benefits and welfare then our own citizens. When your own people are suffering at the expense of illegal arrives, you know something is seriously wrong. Sure Manus island has it's faults, but when you had 300+ boats arriving illegally in 2013 alone, something had to be done.
Well, Australia is a nation of immigrants so just like in the US and Canada, nationalism is based on the concept that lots of people from different places came together to form a new country. Plus your country is enormous, it could definitely support more people. 300 boats doesn't sound as bad compared to the massive numbers of illegal immigrants the US received for instance. Plus Australia is also a very developed country, so I doubt there are that many people who don't receive as many benefits as the immigrants. I am not saying Australia should take all people (immigration must be regulated) but the ethical issues on how to deal with the boat people are sensitive. It saddens me a lot that an Iranian man died on some obscure island in Papua New Guinea without access to health care because some people were afraid of him touching Australian land.
My roommate spent the entire night outside hanging out with people so now he is sleeping and will stay all day doing so which is bad cause I like to have my room for myself
You have to get your named marked off at the ballot box in your electorate. If you don't vote you get fined. I think it's around $170 and you can go to court and a criminal conviction can be recorded against your name

I'm all for legal immigration, I don't think anyone is against that, but it's the illegals that ruin it for everyone. The exact figure for illegal immigrates in 2013 were 20,587. More than half arrive for economic gain, and not the fact they're true refugees. I think the whole system needs a massive overhaul
You shouldn't be forced into voting, if you dislike all the parties running, then you shouldn't have to side with them.
There's a thing called free will, by them forcing you to vote, they're taking that away.
That's so stupid
Nah, they should be made to have an interest in the way their lives are run. Mandatory voting would make people look up the policies and get interest up again

Not everyone should be interested though
What don't you understand
Some people don't care how the country is run, some people prefer not to know and most people just aren't interested. That's their choice, by making things mandatory you're taking away people's free will.
