The lyrics of the song do fit what you said, but overall your entry fell flat to me, especially when compared to the others.
2. CrazyCat - Ariana Grande - My Everything: Why Try – 6.5/10
I love this song! The lyrics fit perfectly your story, I can see how Why Try is special to you. However, I feel like something is missing, it sounded too cliché and a bit fake to me.
3. VDK - Little Mix - Salute: They Just Don't Know You - 10/10
Perfect! I didn’t expect it to end like that, I’m shocked and sad these kinds of things still happen because of other people’s intolerance. It’s the love what really matters, not the gender of the lovers. Don’t feel bad, I’m sure you were just trying to do what you thought would be the best for your friend.
4. Almighty Gaga - Lady Gaga - ARTPOP.: Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly) – 4/10
I feel for you, I also suffered from bullying when I was in school, I know how terrible it is. However, I can’t see how Do What U Want relates to your story. Except for the part you quoted, I don’t see how the rest of the lyrics can be interpreted as an anti-bullying song.
5. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: As You Are - 8.5/10
Your entry is pretty solid, there are only 2 bad things I would say: I didn’t get how the "get comfortable, you're a natural" part references a betrayal; and I don’t like the song, fortunately for you it’s not the most important thing this round.
6. Dollas n Diamonds - Taylor Swift - 1989: I Wish You Would – 5/10
I can tell you had problems with narrowing it down to just 200 words. I didn’t quite get your story and the connection with the song, I think you could’ve explained yourself way better.
7. Yvess - Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin: Slipped Away – 10/10
That’s so sad, I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a friend at such an young age. You did a great job!
8. holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: Ribs – 9/10
I know exactly what you’re saying, I went through the same thing. You did a good job, the song fits your story, I’m not giving you 10 because there are better entries.
9. Girlicious - Azealia Banks - Broke With Expensive Taste: Luxury – 2/10
Gosh, this song is bad! Your essay is good, the problem is I can’t see the connection between it and the lyrics. It seems to me Azealia is talking about the ins and outs of her relationship with one boy, I don’t think she’s trying to move on, but can’t, because he’s always in the back of her mind, like your story.
10. Truth Teller - Christina Aguilera - Bionic: Stronger Than Ever – 1/10
Basically, you explained the lyrics, but it wasn’t what the challenge asked you to do. You were supposed to tell us a personal story and say how it connects to the song, you should’ve told us why Stronger Than Ever is special to you. Just explaining what the lyrics mean is very impersonal.
11. Lucky#17 - Tinashe - Aquarius: Far Side Of The Moon – 6/10
I can see the connection between your story and the song, but overall your entry fell flat to me, especially when compared to the others. I wish you would give more details to show us how personal this song is to you.
12. SailorMoon - Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again: What U See (Is What U Get) – 10/10
As a gay myself, I know exactly what you’re saying, I went through the same process of acceptance of who I am. You did a great job connecting your story with the song!
13. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: You – 10/10
Great entry! You got it all right this time, you connected your story and the song perfectly!
14. Starships - Miley Cyrus - Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus: I Miss You – 10/10
Perfect! I have nothing to say, your entry is so touching and personal!
15. Prismatic - Katy Perry - PRISM: This Moment – 7.5/10
Good entry, you explained well why this song is close to you. However, I wasn’t blown away, there are better entries this round, that’s why I’m giving you 7.5.
16. MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Your Heart Is a Muscle – 8/10
Interesting way of connecting to the song, I think you did a good job, but, as I said to other people, there are better entries this round, that’s why I’m giving you an 8.
17. Xedretinz Lododnz - Maroon 5 - V: Lost Stars – 8/10
I felt the connection between you and the song! I wanted you to give us more details, but I feel like your story is a bit dark and you didn’t share more on purpose, because it would be too personal for you, so I respect that.
18. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: Foolsong – 10/10
I almost cried reading your story, and the song fits it perfectly! May I ask you did you find out what disease did you have? Are you okay now?
19. e437 - Sia - 1000 Forms of Fear: Dressed In Black – 10/10
I’ve been bullied in school for being gay, I never thought about suicide tho, but I know what you’re feeling, it breaks your self-esteem, you feel like you’re worthless. I sincerely hope you can overcome that!
20. theREALslimSHADY - Coldplay - X&Y: Talk - 7.3/10
Your entry isn’t bad, I do see the connection between the song and your story, but there are better entries, making yours fall in the middle of the package this round.
21. josh_923 - Ed Sheeran - X: Even My Dad Does Sometimes – 8.2/10
Perfect connection between story and song! I don’t have anything to criticize, the problem is there are stronger entries this round, so I can’t give you more than 8.2.
22. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: You Learn – 7.8/10
Your approach on this challenge was different than most of the others’. Instead of telling a specific story of your life that connects to the song, you talked about how you live your life in general and how it’s exactly the way Alanis says we should live. I can see it as personal, but, at the same time, especially when comparing your entry with some others, I feel like you lacked in that same department.
23. Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: Dare (La La La) – 7.7/10
OMG I would die if I got to meet Britney and JLo AND appear on their music video! I’m sure it must’ve been an unforgettable experience! Such an unusual entry for this round’s theme and it certainly stands out among those personal and deep stories. Unfortunately, it doesn’t standout enough to be among the best. I have to be fair, as much as I like your entry, there are better entries, so I can’t give more than 7.7.

I'm not really getting the emotional attachment very well with this song. Your essay lacks a really strong story or anecdote that pulls the reader into your life and says how this affects it.
5/10
2. CrazyCat - My Everything
I see how it's very personal to you, but I wish you would've been a little less general with your essay.
5/10
3. VDK - Salute
This story is exactly what I was looking for. It really helps me hear this song the way you do. Plus I teared up a lot.
10/10
4. Almighty Gaga - ARTPOP
This is a little messy because the song is also very sexual. She may say that's the meaning, but the sexual nature is also extremely prominent. On top of that, you were very general with your essay and didn't give me a way to see this song through your eyes.
4/10
5. Penk - The Golden Echo
I like how you incorporated the lyrics so well into each statement. Even though you were a little general with your story, I think it worked well enough for me to get that sense of attachment.
8/10
6. Dollas N Diamonds - 1989
I wish you would've ( ) focused more on explaining the relationship you had with this guy. I love your closing sentence though.
6.5/10
7. Yvess - Under My Skin
This song always reminds me of how much I miss my own grandpa. I can't even listen to it anymore without crying so I know exactly how you feel losing someone you love.
10/10
8. holyground - Pure Heroine
I know this feeling all too well myself. Your essay reminds me how much I'm scared of growing older and being on my own.
10/10
9. Girlicious - Broke With Expensive Taste
There's something missing from your essay that makes me unable to really feel how you connect with this.
4/10
10. Truth Teller - Bionic
You're really missing a strong center story to this that makes it hard to feel that connection.
4/10
11. Lucky#17 - Aquarius
Your essay is just so general. To do well in a personal round you should really tell a little story about a life event or person specifically that makes you connect with the song.
3/10
12. SailorMoon - Oops!... I Did It Again
Even though I've never felt like this before, I can see how this song connects with and that's what really matters.
9.5/10
13. Luigi - The Velvet Rope
Solid essay. You did a good job showing exactly what about this song makes you connect with it.
9/10
14. Starships - Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus
Your story is completely on point and shows why you relate to this song so much.
10/10
15. Prismatic - Prism
I think a little anecdote would've helped you a lot in truly getting your connection across.
6/10
16. MusicLoverDude - Kiss
I love this essay. It's touching in a good way and the picture really gets your connection with the song across.
10/10
17. Xedretinz Lododnz - V
It's a solid entry, but I feel like there's just a little something personal missing from your essay. Like a specific moment or story that could've shown your connection to the song further.
7/10
18. Bloomers - Yellow & Green
I don't think this is perfect, but it shows why exactly this song speaks to you. I hope you're doing well now.
8/10
19. e437 - 1000 Forms Of Fear
I think you didn't speak about yourself and your own experiences quite enough here. Your essay does show why you relate to it, but it's not showing it on as much of a personal level.
6.5/10
20. theREALslimSHADY - X & Y
Same issue I have with the above essay. I wish you would've only written in the first person. You have some good statements in there but it could've been better.
7/10
21. josh_923 - X
What is it about your dad that helps you feel better? I think there was a little more you could've said about him and your connection to the song, but overall nice job.
7/10
22. Capital B - Jagged Little Pill
Your use of third person is a little offputting but your closing statements about why you relate to the song help show me what it is that draws you to it.
7.5/10
23. Pedro - Shakira
This was a bit of a risky song, but your situation here is very unique and your story strongly shows why you connect to the song. It doesn't have to be on a lyrical level.
9.5/10

This song is one of my favorite Nelly songs ever. I bought it immediately when the album came out. It comes out of nowhere and just slays you with that epic instrumental and melody. Ugh. Love it. I totally get where you are coming from with your essay. We use music to inspire us, empower us, and give us energy. This song does the same for me. However, this round, your essay seems a little lacking. I was expecting something a little more powerful.
2. Ariana Grande – Why Try – 8.5/10
I love Why Try! It is a hidden gem on the album for sure. Your essay is an improvement from last week. I felt a connection to your words this time around, and I think the song choice/essay combination is strong. I like how you fused the lyrics of the song into the concepts in your essay. Great job! Go even deeper next time.
3. Little Mix – Salute – 9.5/10
What a 180 from last round. This song is beautiful. It ties into your essay perfectly, and I am so proud of you for sharing this story with us. Thank you for trusting us. I hope your friend is finally at peace. If you can deliver like this from now on, I think you will become a true dark horse in the competition. My one criticism is to focus on the structure of your essay. It felt like you were rushing a little through your words; however, that is understandable given the topic.
4. Lady Gaga – Do What U Want – 8/10
Hearing stories of bullying always breaks my heart. No one deserves to be bullied. It is just awful. I really like this meaning of DWUW, and your story connects well to the song. You took my advice and went deeper with your essay, so I am very excited about that. Good job, and I am interested to see what comes next for you in this game.
5. Kimbra – As You Are – 10/10
This song is really entrancing. I love the essay, and a highlight for me is how you broke apart each piece of your relationship, and explained it with a lyric from the song. This shows a true connection to Kimbra’s words, and I really can tell that this means a lot to you. I had a similar friendship where she wanted more than friendship, and wanted to move quickly. And I was like, nooooope. I eventually stopped talking with her, but ultimately that decision (as hard as it was to do at the time), was great, as it removed a poison from my life.
6 – Taylor Swift – I Wish You Would – 8.5/10
This song and essay combination is pretty good. I like your story, but I feel like it was a little hard to follow in context with the song. Like, was there a piece missing? However, I really, really love your writing style. You have great turns of phrase, and your writing captivates me.
7. Avril Lavigne – Slipped Away – 10/10
Flawless job. I’m so sorry about your friend. Also, this is one of the best album tracks ever. I’ve loved it since the album came out.
8. Lorde – Ribs – 10/10
This essay is in the same vein of my essay for the personal round last season. It looks like we are in the same boat! Your words totally resonate with me, and I really love how you create that connection between yourself and Lorde. It takes your essay to the next level. Keep up the great work!
9. Azealia Banks – Luxury – 8.5/10
The song is fair, but your essay convinced me that it connects to you! Pretty solid work. I like the direct connection to the lyrics.
10. Christina Aguilera – Stronger Than Ever - 6.5/10
I like the structure of this essay, and how you dissected each lyric. However, I feel like this essay was too focused on just the song. I did not feel enough of a personal connection in your words. Really nice song choice.
11. Tinashe – Far Side of the Moon - 9/10
This song is a bop! Great song choice, and your essay was well explained. Great use of lyrics, and I am glad that everything worked out well for you.
12. Britney Spears – What U See – 8/10
This essay is an improvement from last week. I like the angle from which you approached this challenge. Solid song choice, and essay!
13. Janet Jackson – You – 9/10
Once again, I really like reading your essay! Your writing style is great. This story is solid, and I think you connected it really well to the song. Thank you for fusing your reasoning with lyrics from the song! Good job.
14. Miley Cyrus – I Miss You – 10/10
This is the first essay where I almost cried. This song is so beautiful, vulnerable, and raw. It packs a powerful emotional punch, and your essay hit me again. Everyone has to deal with the death of a family member sooner or later, and it is never a fun experience. Lovely writing, and I can clearly see your emotions through your words.
15. Katy Perry – This Moment – 8/10
This is one my least favorite songs from PRISM; however, the message is really important. I think that many people, including myself, get caught up in the possibilities of the future and the actions in the past… but never the present. “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.” – I used that quote from Kung Fu Panda in my middle school yearbook, and in a graduation speech from high school. It resonates a lot with me, for whatever reason, and I hope you like it too. Anyway, your essay was solid, but there was something missing in my opinion. It felt a little mechanical, and I was hoping for an even more personal connection.
16. Carly Rae Jepsen – Your Heart Is A Muscle – 8/10
This is an interesting twist on the song. I like the song a lot, and your story made me smile! I felt like you could have gone a little deeper with your explanation, however. Good luck with your decision next week. I wish you both happiness regardless of what happens!
17. Maroon 5 – Lost Stars – 9/10
The lyrics are deeeeep and well written. They got me thinking about a lot of things. Your essay is solid. I think it hit all the necessary points, and I am happy that your life has been lit up again. Thank you for integrating the lyrics into your paragraph, and for explaining your personal connection to this song.
18. Baroness – Foolsong – 10/10
Great song. Great essay. I love the instrumental! I didn’t know that you had such a serious illness. Thank you for sharing, and I am glad you are feeling stronger now.
19. Sia – Dressed In Black – 9.5/10
A really solid essay. I felt like a few of your sentences were somewhat confusing, but you got your message across. The song is so haunting and powerful. Overall, a great job!
20. Coldplay – Talk – 9/10
Definitely an improvement from last week in your essay. I think you started to become a little more specific with your words. Keep going deeper! The song is really nice, as well, and I like how it connects.
21. Ed Sheeran – Even My Dad Does Sometimes – 10/10
Great job with the song choice and essay. It felt so motivational! I think you are going to go very far in this competition!
22. Alanis - You Learn - 8.5/10
This essay is well written. However I wish there was a deeper connection in the essay. It's really nice but I think it didn't hit fully into what we are looking for.
23. Shakira - Dare - 9.5/10
This story is so cute! Thank you for sharing the pictures too!!!! I am so glad you got to meet her, and your essay truly shows us why this song is special to you.

From the multi-layered outstanding track of last round, to the beautifully toned down and honest As You Are, Kimbra once again appeals and the track reflects the broken relationship of your write-up. A perfectly constructed essay with quoted lyrics to back up your story, all while being personal and relevant to the topic. I remember you narrated this same experience in last season's personal round, and again this came off as really sincere. I'm glad that you could find another song that mirrors it. |
 | holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: Ribs
Lorde continues her quest into her teenage shell, and embarks everybody on this voyage of discovery where we can all connect to her penned experiences about life. The grown-up world is always fascinating to the eyes of a child, and not always what he expected once he steps into it. The desire to go back, or not going any further is a worrisome issue thought about constantly, and you described it perfectly in your essay all while correlating it to Ribs. |
 | Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: Foolsong
We start to reflect on life and its meaning once we are threatened by death, and your essay describes that aspect of how it changes us and makes us look for courage and hope in darkest places. Having something wrong in our body and unable to find a cause is very hard to endure, and I can't imagine how scared you must have been. You described how Foolsong's sound and lyrics mirror that moment of your life, and I can see how it had a great impact on you. A very intimate story, I hope you're better now. |
 | VDK - Little Mix - Salute: They Just Don't Know You
Great rebound from last round. I really appreciate the style you chose to present this round's essay. You cut straight to the chase and let the revelation speak of the connection between you and They Just Don't Know You without mentioning much of it. The essay felt more like your friend's story rather than yours, but I understand how the track reminds you of those events. A very intimate and heartbreaking story. I hope that both of you found peace.
|
 | Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: Dare (La La La)
Meeting someone you love and admire so much is always an exciting experience, and you showed that in your essay. I like that you took a unique approach in the sense that you didn't talk about the theme of Dare (La La La) and how you relate to it, but mentioned how listening to the song makes you think of the time you met your favorite artist. A song doesn't have to be emotional to be personal. You have also been in the song's visual form, so I cannot see a greater connection than that.
|
 | Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: You
We often forsake our identity for acceptance and You encourages individualism. Most of us can relate to this song because we have been that insecure kid trying to fit in with the rest. As we grow up, we learn to be ourselves and be our own leader instead of a follower. You penned that issue well in your essay, and I can see how it influenced you to embrace yourself as you are and not care about what others think. Please stay within the word limit next time.
|
 | Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: You Learn
We are often too afraid to stand or dare, and in the process we stay static in our emotions and the world we built for ourselves. Morissette encourages us to break this shell in You Learn, because that's how you grow and even if you win or fail, it would have been a worthwhile experience because you learnt from it. This is an opinion I also share, and although your essay had a more general approach, I think you depicted that aspect of the song really well and how it represents you.
|
 | Yvess - Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin: Slipped Away
Under My Skin is Lavigne's most personal album, and in the midst is Slipped Away - a track anyone can relate to because we have all lost someone, be it by death, a break up or distance. Losing someone special changes us, and even if we move on, we wonder sometimes what could have been if they never slipped away. Your story is really heartfelt and I can see how listening to it would remind you of your friend.
|
 | e437 - Sia - 1000 Forms of Fear: Dressed In Black
Being criticized for the way someone look is really shallow and sometimes people recoil within themselves in fear of being judged even by a close person. Your essay described this issue well, and I can see why you would relate to Dressed In Black. However, I think you can only relate to the verses about being broken and in the dark, because the chorus and bridge are about finding someone who brings you to light, something you unfortunately haven't found yet as stated in your essay.
|
 | josh_923 - Ed Sheeran - X: Even My Dad Does Sometimes
Coping with the stress of university and life, while being far from family is really hard. I'm glad that you could turn to music at that time and you found solace with Ed's album. Even My Dad Does Sometimes talks about how it's normal to feel this way and that things will be okay. The lyrics really describe what you go through and I'm glad that you mentioned how it impacted your life. I hope that you are doing better now.
|
 | SailorMoon - Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again: What U See (Is What U Get)
In a world where we try to fit in, it really hurts when we don't feel good enough to be accepted or when we have to change for others. What U See (Is What U Get) tackles self-esteem and how we should embrace ourselves as we are and not care about others' opinions. You depicted that well in your essay - describing the song and at the same time relating it to your personal experience - although being a bit confusing sometimes because of the same ideas being repeated.
|
 | theREALslimSHADY - Coldplay - X&Y: Talk
Talk touches the difficulties that people with social anxiety have. They try to voice out sometimes, but they cannot because they feel misunderstood or are unable to do so. This song is an encouragement, and all we need is a special someone to share our issues with, although it's hard to find. I can totally relate to it as well, and you gave a pretty good interpretation of the song in your essay. There were some parts where you meant the same thing. You could have cut them to stay within the word limit. |
 | MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Your Heart Is a Muscle
First of all, this is an adorable picture and your eyes are beautiful. I can see why you would relate to this song, but the fact that you were referencing it to a future relationship while being single doesn't really build a strong connection - at that time. Having Scott in your life made you relate your relationship to Your Heart Is A Muscle, but as you wrote, it seems like he would connect to it more than you do and the essay came off as a bit confusing.
|
 | Prismatic - Katy Perry - PRISM: This Moment
Perry approaches This Moment with love on her mind while singing it. You mentioned that it made you realize that you should stop letting the clock determine your choices, and that you should start valuing your loved ones more. Unfortunately, these are the only points that I have to agree upon because the other points you mentioned in your essay do not match the song's message, although I like the way that you perceive it and how it impacts your life positively. |
 | Dollas n Diamonds - Taylor Swift - 1989: I Wish You Would
Swift is known for her songwriting skills and her ability to make her fans connect to it on a personal level. Despite some unclear parts in your narration due to some missing punctuation or tangled sentences, you successfully penned your story and stated how I Wish You Would describes your relationship, and how it makes you feel. Unfortunately I did not feel that there is a strong connection, and you wrote more than 200 words. Please stay within limits next time.
|
 | CrazyCat - Ariana Grande - My Everything: Why Try
Your essay mirrored the theme of Why Try in such a precision that it felt more like a description rather than a personal related story, but you drew the connection nonetheless. Nobody would have criticised you for feeling a certain way or for being you, so there was no need for the excuses such as 'yes, such an overused theme', 'yes, guys do cry', and 'yes, it does sound like an overused quote'. What could have been a bittersweet love story faded because of these justifications.
|
 | Starships - Miley Cyrus - Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus: I Miss You
The innocence of a young mind about death, and the aftermath of your grandparent's demise is very well described in your essay. You made the connection of this experience to I Miss You by quoting the lyrics, but apart from that, you did not really make a correlation and was a bit more on the general side by saying that you were listening to Hannah's songs or other songs of similar theme. There was also a small contradiction at the end of your essay about the 'helping' part, and you wrote 272 words.
|
 | Xedretinz Lododnz - Maroon 5 - V: Lost Stars
You had a really great interpretation of Lost Stars, although I don't perceive most of it the same way. The song also does not really have a tint of hope, and is more of an image of a lost person trying to find the light or go back to when things were bright. So the last part of someone helping you through your 'lost' phase doesn't really correlate to the song. I am glad that you're now okay and can relate to this song. Please try to stay within the word limit next time.

 | prezli - Nelly Furtado - The Spirit Indestructible: Believers (Arab Spring)
Although you have explained what Believers (Arab Spring) means to you and how it affects you, I think that your essay lacked soul. It was a description of the adrenaline rush that you feel while listening to the song, but since you love the album, the same can be said about a lot of the songs on it. I wish you could have elaborated on the details or gone a bit more personal so that I could see that there is a deeper connection between you and the track.
|
 | Truth Teller - Christina Aguilera - Bionic: Stronger Than Ever
Aguilera's topics on self-esteem are probably the most relatable ones. You broke the song down lyric to lyric to describe what they meant, but your personal relation to them were only left for imagination and felt more like a description of an empowerment anthem devoid of what could have been your heartfelt story. Despite managing to show your connection to it, I wish you could have gone a bit more intimate so that we could see how Stronger Than Ever truly affects you.
|
 | Lucky#17 - Tinashe - Aquarius: Far Side Of The Moon
I can see how you would relate part of Far Side of the Moon to the relationship that you had, but a problem that I got with your essay is that although it seemed personal, it lacked substance because of some of the words you used and it didn't have that heart-warming feel to it. You also leaned more towards the positive outcome of the song by saying that you are still friends, but the song's lyrics seem to conflict the friendly nature because she seems to hate that person and wants him gone.
|
 | Almighty Gaga - Lady Gaga - ARTPOP.: Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)
Do What U Want prints the courage of Lady Gaga as she stands up after people breaks her down. However, you only focused on the downside of your personal bully experience and even though you are in a better state of your life now, you did not mention how you stood up when you were being bullied, or that you stood up at all. The song reminds you of your past experience, but I don't see a hundred percent connection because you don't fully relate it to that period of time.
|
 | Girlicious - Azealia Banks - Broke With Expensive Taste: Luxury
You attempted to connect the song to a phase that you are currently going through, and although I can see why you would relate to it, I don't think that it totally fits your situation. Banks raps about cruising for someone new in Luxury, but no ex lover being at the back of her mind is mentioned. The same ideas kept repeating in your essay, and you wrote more than 200 words. Please try to stay within the word limit while being more concise the next time. |

Why the hell did Almighty Gaga and SlimShady have to vote me off. God damn it, that pushed me down to 10th place
And that damn 7.6 with Kavish I got really decent scores with every other judge and then I get less than a B with Kavish.

It's probably because I changed my character. I rated a lot like you did I think except I didn't give a 1.
