I'd prefer to wait until we have official numbers from BB for this week's chart to say so definitively, but HDD's estimate would put 1989 about 320k up on Red at this same stage (4 weeks).

The gap is even bigger when considering international markets. 1989 is outselling Red in the UK, Canada, Australia and Japan plus most other markets too.

Black Friday/Thanksgiving week should increase the gap even more.

You can't really compare though coz 1989 is a week closer to Christmas so obv it'll be selling more weekly. I hope it can actually outsell reds total year end (for 2012 sales) though despite red having an extra week.

Meghan performed LAM on DWTS last night and only gained it 3% on iTunes too.

The very latest Kworb estimate has dark green updates in the Top 10 only for both Taylor songs and both Meghan songs. They were the songs performed last night on Primetime TV (ok SIO wasn't).

1989 is not a week closer to Christmas (maybe 5 days) ! it s just that there are more days left during Red and it barely has any impact when it s outside of the holiday season. A blackfriday week is a blackfriday week and Red did 180k-190k, 1989 is prolly gonna outsell it.

It was released a week later though so it has less weeks to sell this year. Like how beyonces 2nd and 3rd week sales look huge even though it's just because of holiday sales.

Christmas period doesn't really see a spike in sales until Black Friday Week (ie this week). I understand your point, but it is normal to compare albums sales to date with their predecessor's at the same point after release. And the release dates were almost identical so being off by a week is still closer than most cases.

I also disagree when you say it would obviously be selling more weekly considering that 2 years have passed since Red was released and the Album market has significantly shrunk to maybe 80-85% of 2012's market. The reality is that 1989 is outperforming Red both in absolute terms and in relative terms compared to the current market. It is doing that both in the US and in International markets. The only question is how will it compare to Red in terms of longevity of sales.

It was released a week later ! but it s just that the whole calendar is more late compared to 2012, both were released 3 weeks away from Thanksgiving so I dont see why we cant compare them. To get a fair comparison we should even add 1989's sales after Xmas week to its 2014 total.

Haha yeah I know it's outperforming red in every way so far but I don't wanna claim it's gonna outsell red until we know whether it's just the holiday sales boost and promo that's causing the slight rise. Because red was outperforming speak now at the same time but speak now ended up selling more stateside. (Although about 500k less ww)

People should be freaking out, but because of how well she is doing in every single department. Albums, singles, music videos. She is exceeding expectations in everything at a time when the market has been full of underperformances and gloomy news.
