I like the song, I get what you’re saying, but I feel like you had better options in your album. I think I would’ve gone with Spirit Indestructible or Waiting For The Night, both are very likeable as well, plus they make more impact on the listener than Bucket List.
2. CrazyCat - Ariana Grande - My Everything: Problem (f/ Iggy Azalea) – 10/10
Flawless choice! Problem is my favorite song on the album and definitely one of my favorites of the year! Its instant success globally proves it’s bulletproof and liked by everyone!
3. VDK - Little Mix - Salute: Salute – 10/10
Why is everyone voting you off? This song is FIRE and PERFECTION! One of my favorites songs from Little Mix, if not my favorite! This song received great response from the public since the album was released, you couldn’t have made a better choice!
4. Almighty Gaga - Lady Gaga - ARTPOP.: Gypsy - 8/10
I was curious to see what song you would choose, because I had no idea which song would be a better fit for this round. I think you made the right decision, when everyone were hating on Artpop, Gypsy is definitely the song that received the best response. You could’ve done a lot better on your essay tho.
5. Bey_Rihstan - Brandy - Afrodisiac: Talk About Our Love (f/ Kanye West) – 7.5/10
I liked this song, I don’t love it, but I like it. I can see it as a likeable song for other people. Your essay is very short, you could’ve explored a bit more the points you made.
6. dwuw - Tove Lo - Queen Of The Clouds: Moments – 6.5/10
I thought you would choose Habits (Stay High) since it’s her first major hit, which proves it to be bulletproof. I don’t know the album to say if you made the right choice by picking Moments, but I liked it. I’m not sure if it would be liked by everyone tho. Your essay… it’s really basic and lacking information to persuade us.
7. Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Nobody But You – 6.5/10
Nice song, but, at the same time I think it’s an easy song to like, I don’t think it’s completely bulletproof, it’s kinda forgettable. Your essay helped you a bit here, otherwise your score would’ve been lower.
8. Dollas n Diamonds - Taylor Swift - 1989: Blank Space 10/10
YES!! This song is flawless, I’m obsessed with it right now, probably my favorite from 1989, and its instant success proves how bulletproof it is! Your essay is really well written, great job!
9. Yvess - Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin: Nobody's Home – 9.5/10
I personally would’ve gone with My Happy Ending, my favorite song by Avril. However, Nobody’s Home is equally amazing and is also among my top favorite songs from her. Your essay really sold your choice to me.
10. holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: Team – 10/10
I was wondering if you would choose Team or Royals, both are the only songs from Lorde’s album that I kept listening to for a long time, so great choice. You did a good essay too.
11. Girlicious - Azealia Banks - Broke With Expensive Taste: Chasing Time – 9/10
I hate Azealia, never liked any of her songs. I heard Chasing Times a few days ago and was surprised I was actually enjoying something from her for the first time, so congrats for making the right song choice here. Your essay is short, but it’s cute, you made some good points.
12. Truth Teller - Christina Aguilera - Bionic: You Lost Me – 9/10
The constant shade towards your own album and fave… I was unsure with your song choice at first, I wanted you to choose Bionic, the best song on the album imo. However, it’s such a beautiful ballad indeed and you sold it in your essay. The only problem here is: you said critics, fans and haters all love it, but it still flopped hard, so it’s not that bulletproof after all. I’m taking 1 point from you for that contradiction.
Ps: It’s her 5th most viewed video on VEVO and only has 51 million views? Her flop is REAL!
13. sumthintoxic82 - Danity Kane - DK3: All In A Day's Work – 4.5/10
This song is a mess, I don’t know if I like it or not. What I do know is that it’s not an easy song to like, its messiness and weirdness may not appeal to everyone. Plus, you said it wouldn’t slay in the radio, which means you think people wouldn’t like it enough to request it, so it’s not that bulletproof after all.
14. Lucky#17 - Tinashe - Aquarius: 2 On (f/ School Boy Q) – 10/10
I don’t know her album, but 2 On is great and made me want to check it (I’m yet to do it tho ), so I think you made a good choice! Also, you made good points in your essay to support this choice!
15. SailorMoon - Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again: Oops!... I Did It Again – 10/10
YAS!!!!!! One of the most iconic songs in pop culture!!! You absolutely made the right choice, this song was massive and played EVERYWHERE back in the day! Until today people enjoy it as one of those nostalgic songs you go crazy when you hear it again after a long time! No song in this set is more bulletproof than Oops tbh, slay!!
16. Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: I Get Lonely – 3/10
The song isn’t bad, but it’s far from being great. It drags for almost 5 mins, I wanted it to stop when it reached the third minute. I don’t know the album, but I know Together Again, and it’s WAY better than I Get Lonely, more likeable too. I don’t get why you didn’t choose it.
17. Starships - Miley Cyrus - Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus: Nobody's Perfect – 2/10
Miley’s voice here I love Miley, but this song is a big NO for me. I can’t see anyone liking it other than the children that it’s directed to, it’s not bulletproof at all. Most of the adults would never bop to this song. I think See You Again would’ve been a better fit for this round.
18. Prismatic - Katy Perry - PRISM: Roar – 9/10
Dark Horse would’ve been the best choice for me. I love Roar and I think its huge success is enough to qualify it as bulletproof, but it does get some hate, unlike Dark Horse, which is also massive everywhere and doesn’t get much hate. I’ll take just 1 point from you, even though you had a better choice, I think you still made a good one, and explained it well in your essay.
19. MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Call Me Maybe – 10/10
The Sims theme song, never thought of that! Great choice, you couldn’t have gone other way. I was reluctant to this song when it was released, but a few weeks later I let go and was enjoying it just like everyone else. The tons of videos of all kinds of people singing it proves how bulletproof Call Me Maybe is.
20. Xedretinz Lododnz - Maroon 5 - V: It Was Always You – 10/10
I was really addicted to this song when it was released, the best song on “V” and probably one of my favorite songs from Maroon 5. For me, you couldn’t have chosen a better song, and you did a good essay!
21. Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: March To The Sea – 1/10
I don’t see any pop influence in this song. It’s too rock and heavy for me, I feel like the guy is not singing, he’s shouting. I don’t think it’s likeable and bulletproof at all, it doesn’t appeal to everyone, but only to a specific group of people.
22. e437 - Sia - 1000 Forms of Fear: Eye Of The Needle – 4/10
I don’t get why you didn’t choose Chandelier, your explanation didn’t convince me. Eye Of The Needle is a good song, but Chandelier is clearly the most bulletproof song on the album, since it’s Sia’s biggest global hit with her being the lead artist instead of a featuring. The critics and the general public love it. I think you made a big mistake here.
23. theREALslimSHADY - Coldplay - X&Y: Fix You – 10/10
“(…) and has gained widespread appeal over the years even among people who don’t listen to/love Coldplay”. EXACTLY, I don’t listen to/love Coldplay, but this song is just . It’s impossible not to love it, great job!
24. josh_923 - Ed Sheeran - X: Thinking Out Loud – 10/10
YES josh, do King Sheeran justice!!!! Thinking Out Loud is FLAWLESS, the more I listen to it, the more I love it, it’s perfection! It’s the best song on “x” and probably my favorite song from him! This song is just EVERYTHING!!
25. Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: You Oughta Know – 10/10
PERFECT choice! You said everything in your essay, I have nothing to add!
26. Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: Empire – 8/10
I absolutely love Empire, but I was unsure about you choosing it for this round. Even though your essay sold it really well to me and saved you from losing a lot of points, I still think “Dare (La La La)” would’ve been the best choice, the massive positive response to its version for the World Cup proves how bullerproof and likeable it is. People even wanted it to be the official World Cup song instead of We Are One, for me it’s the song that appeals to everyone the most on the album.

Cute song, lyrics everyone can relate to, and very catchy. Good job.
9.5/10
2. CrazyCat - My Everything
I think Love Me Harder is much more universally liked than this. Personally, I find the chorus annoying, and I can only take so much of that sax loop. Plus, your essay didn't really convince me because you resorted to popularity as an argument.
5.5/10
3. VDK - Salute
This song is definitely catchy and powerful, but its message doesn't really apply to a wide range of people.
5/10
4. Almighty Gaga - ARTPOP
While your essay is a little lacking, you did pick the right song. Gypsy is far and away the best and immediately most likeable song on ARTPOP.
8/10
5. Bey_Rihstan - Afrodisiac
This is definitely a situation everyone can relate to, and it's really catchy. I think you could've boosted your essay with some more details about how people relate to it though.
7.5/10
6. dwuw - Queen Of The Clouds
I don't know why everyone is voting you off. Besides Habits, I was instantly drawn to this song. I love its message and the chorus is such a pop anthem earworm. Yeah okay, there were better choices, but I this works well enough too.
8/10
7. Penk - The Golden Echo
I can see this working in the opposite way, too. With all of its elements, some people might be turned off by it. That's not to say its not catchy and relatable, but it doesn't quite hit that universal sound.
6.5/10
8. Dollas N Diamonds - 1989
Perfect choice and great essay.
10/10
9. Yvess - Under My Skin
While your song choice is great, your essay focuses more on the sound and the album instead of how those things affect the listeners.
6.5/10
10. holyground - Pure Heroine
This was the first song of hers that really drew me in to her music. I hated Royals, but this has everything anyone could hope for in her music.
10/10
11. Girlicious - Broke With Expensive Taste
I actually really enjoyed this song. It has a lot to like about it and I like how it has different elements, yet nails that universal appeal.
9.5/10
12. Truth Teller - Bionic
You would've done so much better if you had talked about its themes or sound and how it really resonates with people, instead of throwing out opinions that you show no proof of. That said, I absolutely adore You Lost Me and do think you're right in saying that it's the most liked song on the album.
5.5/10
13. sumthintoxic82 - DK3
Not bad at all. I can see this appealing to a wide range of people. Good job.
7/10
14. Lucky#17 - Aquarius
I liked this song on very first listen. The lyrics are kind of trash, but her delivery and attitude make it such a bop. So even if you hate the lyrics or the production, I think there's enough elements to it that make it likeable on some level.
9/10
15. SailorMoon - Oops!... I Did It Again
It's a classic for a reason. Your reasoning was spot on and so was your song choice.
10/10
16. Luigi - The Velvet Rope
Okay, this is good. I'm glad you talked about how a listener goes through the song and how it resonates.
9/10
17. Starships - Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus
Eh, I still think it's too childish and her voice is so annoying in this.
4/10
18. Prismatic - Prism
While its message and sound are super appealing and relatable, most people find it too generic to be anything great. Dark Horse would've been the better choice.
6/10
19. MusicLoverDude - Kiss
You're right that it's universally liked and appeals to a lot of people, that appeal is mostly in guilty pleasure form. Not because it's a really good song. You talked a lot about Carly herself in your essay and didn't nail down why people like it so much or how it resonates with the audience.
5.5/10
20. Xedretinz Lododnz - V
One of the only good songs on this album.
10/10
21. Bloomers - Yellow & Green
Being a fan of rock music, I instantly liked this song. I think the only thing to not like about it for a huge pop only fan is the singer's voice. It's a little on the heavy side, but I think you're right that it has a wide appeal due to its pop flavor and lyrics.
8.5/10
22. e437 - 1000 Forms Of Fear
I'm actually glad you didn't send Chandelier. This appeals just as well, and the more relaxed sound I think hits people even harder.
10/10
23. theREALslimSHADY - X & Y
Perfect song and essay.
10/10
24. josh_923 - X
It's a pretty song and very easy to listen to. Personally, Don't is the first song of his that I really liked, but I see how this appeals widely as well.
9/10
25. Capital B - Jagged Little Pill
A classic for a reason and you explained it so well.
10/10
26. Pedro - Shakira
Slay Pedro. Definitely the right song choice and you nailed how it appeals to even the most critical of her haters.
10/10

This song is so cute! I think that it has a really pleasing instrumental and melody, so it is definitely likeable in that regard. It transcends alternative and pop genres, too. The only part of the song that might turn people off is the ending, but it’s not that bad. The message is universally appealing, and I totally, totally agree with your essay. More people need to take chances and do what they want to do. Strong entry!
2. Ariana Grande – Problem – 7.5/10
“Problem” as the song choice makes complete sense. It is definitely the most universally likeable, as it transcends a few genres, and I think that Ariana’s obvious vocal talent captivates people. Your essay lacks something for me. It feels very mechanical. Yes, I know these basic bullet points about why the song is bulletproof, but I want you to go in deeper, and really pick the song apart. This is a decent starting point.
3. Little Mix – Salute – 3.5/10
This is a total misfire, unfortunately. It is an interesting song, but it definitely does not fit the “universally likeable” label. I mean, the song immediately isolates like 50% of the population, as it is a female empowerment song. Could you see many guys listening to this? The military chants are a turn-off too. Your essay is an interesting read, but it does not address the theme. If you survive through this round, you will need to focus more on the requirements of the challenge.
4. Lady Gaga – Gypsy – 5.5/10
“Gypsy” is definitely one of the most universally likeable songs on ARTPOP, especially since the majority of the album will repel most listeners. So, I agree with your song choice. Your essay is extremely lacking, unfortunately. There is really only one premise that supports your claim: “it has that feel-good, yet energetic vibe that makes your fall in love with it from the first listen.” Can you go deeper and explain that vibe? Why else would this song appeal to many people? Use your current essay structure as a base for building your entry next round, should you move on. I want to see more explanation, and less standalone statements.
5. Brandy – Talk About Our Love - 6/10
I have never heard this song before. It is not a bad song, and I think it would definitely appeal to a decent amount of people. This essay is lackluster, however. I think it explains the “bulletproof” nature a little, but your reasoning about someone judging your relationship is not that strong, in my opinion. I really was expecting more. Next round, try to expand on your thoughts more.
6. Tove Lo – Moments – 7/10
This entry is in the middle of the pack, for me. I think that you were on the edge of having a solid essay. What you wrote is a great foundation, but you definitely need to expand your thoughts a little more. I like your phrases and writing style, especially “blooming production”. The song itself is cute, and I love the melody of the fist verse! I see potential here.
7. Kimbra – Nobody But You – 9/10
I am so excited to see you competing again, Penk! You did an amazing job last season, and I think that awesome performance will continue through season seven. Your essay is really strong, and pretty fully explains why this song is “bulletproof”. I think the song itself is a little on the experimental side to be universally likeable, but it is a solid choice. I don’t know much of Kimbra’s music, so I am excited to hear more from her. This is a really great start – keep it up, because last season, you started so strong and slipped towards the critical endpoint. I am looking forward to your entries in the future!
8 – Taylor Swift – Blank Space – 10/10
Perfect song choice. Fantastic essay. You explained the requirements fully, and fused them with a scintillating description of the track. I love how you analyzed the song, as well. A few of my friends who do not like mainstream pop and are not fans of Taylor Swift love this song. The Lord ha impact.
9. Avril Lavigne – Under My Skin – 9/10
I love, love, love this album, and this song is so beautiful! I definitely think it is relatable, and I think that different people can apply this song to their own unique experiences of heartbreak or loneliness. Your essay is really strong, and I am so excited to see what you bring in the future!
10. Lorde – Team – 10/10
I love your essay and how you explained that Lorde balances youth with maturity in a seamless manner. Taking on age groups as your “universal” concept is a great approach. I am going to pick on your grammar, because I don’t have much else to criticize: “less darker” is not a valid phrase. Just “darker” is necessary. Also, be careful about “its” vs. “it’s”. Anyway, this is a great song choice for this round. There’s a reason that it did so well on radio. I love your writing style, and I think you will be in it for the long haul this season, once again!
11. Azealia Banks – Chasing Time – 9/10
This is going to be a tough album for me to swallow, as I am not an Azealia fan (or rap fan) by any means. However, this song is a bop. If it can appeal to me, then I think it can appeal to many people who normally would not like Azealia’s music. Strong, strong song choice. I’m actually debating about buying it right now tbh. Your essay is solid, if not a little short. I like how you used your personal experience as an example. Next essay, expand your thoughts a little more, but you are off to a great start!
12. Christina Aguilera – You Lost Me - 9/10
When I started listening to this song, I thought it was a little too dramatic of a song to be universally appealing. It’s a great song, though. Then I started reading your essay, and it convinced me of your song choice! I would love to see more receipts, but I think your facts are good evidence for this song choice. Great job! Also, I love how you classily shaded Christina and Keri Hilson in your essay. It made me giggle, so thanks for that!
13. Danity Kane – All In A Day’s Work - 8/10
I like how this is an empowerment anthem for all people – that definitely fits the bill as a “universally” likeable song. The song is a little harsh sounding for my personal tastes, but I could see many people enjoying it. Your essay is well written, and I like how you tied this song to the overall feeling of the album. I am interested to see how these genres intertwine in the future! Good start.
14. Tinashe – 2 On (f/School Boy Q) - 9/10
Sometimes you have to pick the obvious choice! It was a hit for a reason, right? This song is really good, and I think it appeals to both urban and non-urban listeners, as you stated. I love that you gave some evidence of a critic’s review to back up your argument, as well as ATRL’s support for the track in the Aquarius album survivor. Great choice, and I think you are off to a much better start then in season 6!
15. Britney Spears – Oops! – 7/10
This is a great song choice. I love Oops!, and it definitely has mass appeal. However, I think your essay is very middle of the road. It seems to focus too much on the video and Britney’s career, rather than how large groups of people might enjoy the song. So, you will definitely need to focus more on your essay next time.
16. Janet Jackson – I Get Lonely – 8/10
I really like your essay! Your writing style is strong, and I think you explained your reasoning really well. The song is a little boring for me. It’s nice, but it lacks that punch that I was looking for. Ultimately, this is a fine entry, elevated by your writing. Hopefully next time you can take it to the next level!
17. Miley Cyrus – Nobody’s Perfect – 9/10
I totally agree with your choice! This song is such a guilty pleasure, and I think that a lot of adults enjoy it too. The message is relatable, regardless of age, and I love the lyric you chose as evidence. That harsh reality is something that we need to be constantly reminded about, year after year. I really love your writing, and I think this is a great start for you. Keep it up!
18. Katy Perry – Roar – 9.5/10
Regardless of a few “off” votes, I think this a fantastic song choice. Roar and Dark Horse are the two strongest choices for this challenge, so I don’t think you could have gone wrong with one of those two. I love “Roar”, and I can’t wait to see your interpretation of this album as we move forward! I think your essay is solid, if not a tad over-zealous, but it explains the requirements well. Great job!
19. Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe – 9/10
This is an obvious choice for the most likeable song. It might be the most universally liked and played track in recent years! Your essay has some strong components, but I feel like parts of it are a little superfluous: specifically, the line describing all of the other artists in the music industry today. Use that space to further your argument and discuss Carly’s song. If you can do that, you can take your essay to an even higher level, and knock it out of the park!
20. Maroon 5 – It Was Always You – 6/10
I feel like this song choice is decent, as many people definitely like mid-tempo, calmer songs such as this one. However, at the same time, “It Was Always You” is a little boring compared to the other songs on the album. I personally like it, but I don’t know if everyone would find it enjoyable. The essay is fairly bland; I feel like you were so close to hitting the necessary points, but just failed to do so. Next time, if you advance, you will need to give us the entrée, not just this appetizer.
21. Baroness – March to the Sea – 8.5/10
This song is definitely darker than most of the music that I listen to! It was really powerful and exciting though. I think it is definitely hard to sell harder, rock-oriented songs as “universally likeable”, but you definitely did that well in your essay. I loved your descriptions of the structure of the song. It was very descriptive, and I adore writing like that. I will be interested to see what the rest of the album has in store.
22. Sia – Eye of the Needle – 8.5/10
This song is really beautiful, and you can definitely feel the passion in her voice! I think it is a solid choice, especially when compared to some more unique songs on her album. Your essay is well written, and I think that most people would be able to connect with the song based on the reasons you provided. I think you could have expanded your thoughts about this song being “bulletproof” a little more. That part seemed rushed at the end of the essay.
23. Coldplay – Fix You – 8.5/10
A really beautiful and emotional song. I do know some people who are not a fan of his falsetto/tone in this song, but it is a small faction. For the most part, especially on ATRL, people seem to love this song! I think the choice is strong, and the essay is a good starting point. I wish you would expand on your argument a little more, as some of the statements are too general, such as having “meaning and universally relatable lyrics.” Examples of lyrics are really great in this game, so work on solidifying your essay further next round. PS. I love that buildup towards the end.
24. Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud – 10/10
Perfect song choice! And a really great essay. I could see you as a big contender in this competition. I especially love how this song can appeal to anyone from age 18 to 118. It is so beautiful, and has a really wonderful melody and instrumental for all demographics to enjoy. It also looks like this will become the biggest hit of the “x” era, so the general public really loves it worldwide!
25. Alanis Morissette – You Oughta Know -- 9/10
This song is definitely a well-known Alanis track, especially in the USA. I think that it is definitely appealing to many people, as it transcends mainstream pop and rock quite well. I personally think “Ironic” would have been a better choice for this challenge, because it is a little softer around the edges. However, your essay is really strong, and I like how you gave examples of how this song is impacting the current era in music and the younger generation. Well explained, and well written! I’m excited to listen to this album throughout this tournament.
26. Shakira – Empire -- 9/10
Hello there, Pedro! I am so excited that you are competing this season, and I am expecting great things from you – especially since you are playing with your queen, Shakira’s, album. This is a great starting point! I have mixed feelings about “Empire” – some listens, I love it, and some listens, I am not a huge fan. I think that it is definitely a likeable song, and your essay supports your entry very well. I like how you described it as a “mystery” and “a breath of fresh air”… and I also love how you explained your thought process behind Shakira NOT having universally likeable music. Sometimes, it is okay to be unique like she is – you can’t please everyone, right? Great start, and I look forward to the rest of the album!

Since this was the first round, I took the opportunity to write a few lines about my opinion on the artist / song / album that you are representing.
I was satisfied with most of the song choices, but not much with the essays. Since the majority had the same issue concerning the essays, I decided to put it here.
A universally appealing song means a song that would appeal to pretty much everyone.
Common Bad Reasons Given As to Why the Song Is Universally Appealing:
The song is popular / loved by people / critically acclaimed / a hit on the charts / won awards / had impact.
The song uses instruments X, Y, Z and the production is A, B, C
The above are either description of the song or happened because the song is appealing. But I wanted to know why the songs are appealing in the first place.
Common Good Reasons Given as to Why the Song Is Universally Appealing:
People can relate / connect to the lyrics or the sound and makes them feel a certain way.
The song has a universal message like empowerment, acceptance, love.
There are more points to both reasons, but those came up more often. Most got it wrong and some didn't even talk about the topic.

| Penk - Kimbra - The Golden Echo: Nobody But You
Discovered by most from Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know, Kimbra displays different vocals and sounds through different works of hers. Sometimes mellow, sometimes upbeat, while playing with vocal tones, Kimbra shows that she likes to experiment. She takes Nobody But You to an other level, a more universally appealing one. Cordial lyrics with radio-ready production is the new formula for Kimbra's attempt at mainstream, and somehow it encompasses her previous musical temperaments - reminiscent of debut album Vows. You gave great points, although some lines were not necessary. The outro to the song is impressive. Looking forward to more golden tunes. |

| holyground - Lorde - Pure Heroine: Team
Be it Royals or any other tracks from Pure Heroine, Lorde manages to pen her teenage life stories and make listeners from any age group relate to them. Team follows the same structure of complex narration, depicted through gloomy images and heard upon dreamy, yet powerful sounds found on her debut. Considering how young she is and bringing forth such mature, raw and honest music, Lorde was bound to appeal. The song being a bit more upbeat, and also touching the idea of how normal we can be and yet have each other's back would surely attract more in a lyricism aspect. You repeated some of the ideas, but all points got across. A nice beginning, keep showing us why she is the heroine.
|

| CrazyCat - Ariana Grande - My Everything: Problem (f/ Iggy Azalea)
If Yours Truly generated mild success for the birth of new pop sensation Ariana Grande, it was only a preparation for the massive sophomore, My Everything. Problem was crafted to wake the world with its relatable lyrics, great production, vocals, features, and indeed, this was Grande's everything. You gave the recipe for the song, and although you had the same thoughts written through different words, the ingredients are what made the lead single so infectious and appealing. The album and its singles have been triumphant - without a problem - both commercially and critically so far. This is your opportunity to prove that My Everything is truly grand, and that Grande is an elusive chanteuse.

Viva La Vida caught the world into its powerful and anthemic web, and it was the result of its inescapable haunting instrumentation. Rewinding a few years back, they were able to achieve the same interaction with Fix You but under another umbrella of emotions. The song reminds us of our open wounds with its empathetic lyrics, leaving us in hope that they'll turn into scars. With a heartbreaking, slow and honest start which builds up into an explosive bridge, it is set to make your heart thump - thus Coldplay's mission accomplished. Although you mentioned its relatability factor, not much about it was penned in the rest of the essay. X&Y is one of Coldplay's best albums, can't wait to go back to square one.
|

| Truth Teller - Christina Aguilera - Bionic: You Lost Me
If Christina Aguilera has attracted the masses since her debut, there is something about Not Myself Tonight that was making a statement. Although the lead single was alluring, the world wanted to see Aguilera at what she excels the most - ballads. You Lost Me is the pearl of the shell with its relatable lyrics, minimal production and focus on her great vocals. You laid more emphasis on how the album is bashed, its underperformance and achievements, instead of writing about what makes the song appealing. Since you mentioned the slack that Bionic receives, consider this redemption and show us that Aguilera is indeed the legend of the United States.
|

| Yvess - Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin: Nobody's Home
Coming off an era where she started as a rebel and ended as vulnerable, the world was set to expect Avril Lavigne's dark side on her follow up, Under My Skin. Although He Wasn't would undeniably appeal more for production reasons only (a la Sk8ter Boi), Nobody's Home englobes the thoughts and feelings of a bruised person, making it more personal and relatable. Merging it with a somber yet rocky enough sound to appeal to her listeners, Lavigne showed that she can be anything but ordinary. It was a clever move to also introduce the album on the first round, but I think you strayed a bit at some points. Under My Skin is considered by most to be her best work, don't let it slip away.
|

| Starships - Miley Cyrus - Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus: Nobody's Perfect
Hannah Montana being idolized back in the day while releasing an album pushed Miley Cyrus farther into the stardom that she was born into. Lead single Nobody's Perfect being about making, accepting and handling mistakes has an all-embracing message that anybody can refer to, but despite that, it still sounds Disney-ish and that only attracts mostly the younger demographic. You discussed three ways by which the song appeals to people, and although you repeated some of them, it was a very clever idea and you are among the few who really stayed relevant. We watched Montana transform into Cyrus in recent years, can't wait to start all over.
|

| Prismatic - Katy Perry - PRISM: Roar
Teenage Dream comprised of well fabricated tracks wired for radio, and formulas to win the pop scene and our hearts over. The Firework of Katy Perry's PRISM is without a doubt the lead single, Roar - and although we expected something different, she yet again appeals to kats and dogs alike with its infectious, anthemic sound and attributable lyrics directing to our capability to stand strong and brave. There were some exaggeration in your write-up, but you managed to get a few points across. Perry's fourth album was intently recorded as a statement to let the light in. I'm eager for you to embark us on this prismatic journey.
|

| Capital B - Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill: You Oughta Know
Changing from bubblegum pop to rock was Alanis Morissette's career defining decision, as she went down being one of the most notable female artists at that time, with some classics on her sleeve. In the midst of her discography, You Oughta Know bears questionable lyrics, and although not many would relate to the story, it still sparks admiracy for Morissette's witty and expressive songwriting ability. Her raw vocals steadies and raises through verse and chorus with an angry tone that makes the song recognizable and draws attention. Although some points were not needed, you still got some good ones across. A model album to make this season even more perfect.
|

| dwuw - Tove Lo - Queen Of The Clouds: Moments
Tove Lo's breakthrough with Habits (Stay High) placed her on a different vein on the pop scene, with her personal and raw lyrics merged with electro influences. Although its massive success, Moments may be the most relatable in the sense that it speaks of a more universal topic - being loved despite of our flaws. The song could have been a power love ballad and it would have been as heartfelt, but Lo brings in the beats to counter the emotions and narration - and that's where she excels in appealing to the masses. In spite of your concise points, it seems like not much thought was put into constructing your sentences. Queen of the Clouds is filled with such addictive tracks, looking forward to be drugged by it.
|

| Lucky#17 - Tinashe - Aquarius: 2 On (f/ School Boy Q)
New R&B sensation Tinashe has already put herself higher than her peers due to the mature image and sound she projects. Her debut persuades not only those in her demographic, but also anyone and that's because of her sense of awareness to youth culture. Songs about partying, drinking, smoking and sex have been glamoured for a while now, but Tinashe makes it sounds classy and fancy. With DJ Mustard, Redwine, and her sensuous voice, 2 On was meant to appeal. You talked more about the song's achievements and praises instead of explaining why the song is universally appealing. Aquarius has been well received, so I'm looking forward for you to help us get on it.
|

| e437 - Sia - 1000 Forms of Fear: Eye Of The Needle
Sia has always been under the radar, forging heartbreaking and earnest songs to later break through with lead single Chandelier. Eye of the Needle is no less - the raw vocals tangled with the captivating instrumentation makes the story even more painful. With its honestly poignant and relatable lyrics that depict the phase that we go through after a break up - the unwillingness to let go, but finally realizing that we have to - is without a doubt why Sia is able to attract. Even though you mentioned that, the rest of your essay was less about why the song is appealing. 1000 Forms of Fear broke Sia into the mainstream, and I'm relying on you to make us see the artist behind the wig.
|

| prezli - Nelly Furtado - The Spirit Indestructible: Bucket List
Big Hoops (Bigger the Better) was sonically produced to have massive appeal for Nelly Furtado's comeback. While it proves to be the right decision by comparing it to Bucket List's commercial success, the latter has a better formula which the former lacks. Encouragement and advice are listed on Furtado's bucket list for her listeners to stop slacking in life and to start chasing their dreams, and this is a wiser way to grasp attention in her hoops. I like how you quoted a part of the song to back up your points, therefore, there was no need to drag along with the questions. Furtado's fifth studio album is often looked down upon, so I'm looking forward for you to show us that its spirit is truly indestructible.
|

| Bloomers - Baroness - Yellow & Green: March To The Sea
Red Album showed that Baroness was one of the most notable metal bands out there with their experimentation and heavy yet enticing sounds. March To The Sea takes us back to those times, and they continue to impress with a serious and identifiable content that can also be taken metaphorically - everybody has their own ways to kill their pain and by doing that, we inflict more pain to ourselves. Although the track is catchy, this type of music is complex and sonically does not appeal on an universal scale, except to those who seek it out. Yellow & Green already sounds promising, so I hope you can board up the house with its creativity and lure us in.
|

| MusicLoverDude - Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss: Call Me Maybe
Breaking through with Tonight I'm Getting Over You as her lead single at that particular techno-influenced time was a safe bet for Carly Rae Jepsen, but the Call Me Maybe option was the wiser call. Going down to be among the most recognizable songs of the decade, this track is a beautifully crafted pop piece with its harmless, fun going, relatable lyrics and unavoidable addictive sound. Your essay bore very few points as to why the song is appealing, and you wrote more about Jepsen making a place for herself in the industry. Kiss is mostly known for this particular song, so I'm expecting you to use it to make us have a good time.
|

| josh_923 - Ed Sheeran - X: Thinking Out Loud
From + to x, Ed Sheeran has had the ability to write about the broken hearted and the love struck. If Give Me Love was about feeling lonely and seeking for love, Thinking Out Loud is about a love found and cherishing it. Even if it doesn't apply to everybody, that thought of spending the rest of our life with our significant lover has crossed many hearts, even the loneliest of souls. The sound is more acoustic and laid back, putting his vocals on focus and making of it a nice wedding song to dance to and wish upon. You wrote more about the fact that the song is very liked, and less about why it is appealing. With him being the only male solo artist this season, show us how he's indeed the man.
|

| Pedro - Shakira - Shakira.: Empire
With so many notable songs in Shakira's discography, the massive ones all mix perfectly in a musical diversity ball with different languages and genres. Not so often has she put forth a romantic song as a single, but when she does, she makes sure it fits in that ball and that it's not cliché. She fervently makes a call to love with Empire, and does so in an elegance and pompous demeanor with lyrics which any love bird can commit to, and an explosive and catchy instrumentation. You put more emphasis on the song's adoration by people and its genre instead of why the song is universally appealing. It's remarkable that she is on her tenth album. It's time for you to show us why we should not remember to forget her.
|

| Dollas n Diamonds - Taylor Swift - 1989: Blank Space
Taylor Swift dropped Nashville's haystack to hit New York with a new mould that would attract more listeners. Shake It Off being about brushing off the haters and doing what you want seems more relatable than a song about a lover gone crazy. However, like the former, Blank Space is designed to lure with its catchy production and wordplay, and recent success history proves that she has succeeded in her mission. In spite of your well construed sentences and well thought words, too much description of the song was given, and not enough of the reason why you thought the song is universally appealing. 1989 took the world by storm this year, and this is your time to show us how Swift has truly been the dark horse of pop in recent years.
|

| SailorMoon - Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again: Oops!... I Did It Again
Coming off her huge debut, Britney Spears marked the female pop world with her sophomore. Lead single Oops!... I Did It Again left right where her last era ended, and continued with the massive interest with its playful lyrics and addictive sound. Such elements were the making of a sure fire hit that still attracts to this day. You focused on the song's achievements and the video's and Spears' image and impact rather than talking about why the song is universally appealing. Also, I think that the sexualization of her image started right from her debut. Oops!... I Did It Again is one of the most iconic albums of the 2000s, and I hope that you can show us why she was a stronger force back then.
|

| Luigi - Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope: I Get Lonely
The Velvet Rope is one of Janet Jackson's most personal album, and amongst tracks of depression and sensuality, I Get Lonely sits painfully in between. With a poignant honesty, Jackson reveals how lonely she is and wishes to get back to her significant other. Mixed with a calm yet desirous call and refined composition, reminiscent of Celine Dion's All By Myself released not more than two years before this one - it was meant to appeal. I think you should have gone more in depth with this song by saying how relatable it is, but you were more on the production route to describe the song. Considered one of Jackson's best works, I'm expecting you to cut the velvet rope so that we can see the beauty of this album.
|

| Girlicious - Azealia Banks - Broke With Expensive Taste: Chasing Time
212 introduced most of us to Azealia Banks' outspoken personality. Her rapping, singing and songwriting ability mixed with producer Lazy Jay's infectious production was enough to push her into the spotlight. Chasing Time allows such former traits, but despite lacking in the not-so-catchy department, she wins us by penning a relatable piece about wasting our time on someone, and the recent reception for her debut proves it. You seemed to have an idea of what makes this song appealing, but you didn't know how to build cohesive sentences with them. Broke With Expensive Taste is critically acclaimed, so her luxury will be expected.
|

| Bey_Rihstan - Brandy - Afrodisiac: Talk About Our Love (f/ Kanye West)
Kanye West's genius work was discovered on Jay-Z's The Blueprint, and the world was graced with his debut in 2004. Having him on her lead single for Afrodisiac at that time was a wise decision for Brandy who was also at her peak after three successful albums. West once again showcased his abilities, Brandy delivered softly good vocals, and as a result Talk About Our Love was born. The song speaks of a particular issue that most people would not connect to but along with a production which is often favored in R&B, the song may appeal in that aspect. Since her previous works are more popular, this is your chance to make us discover Afrodisiac and drive Brandy into focus.
|

| Almighty Gaga - Lady Gaga - ARTPOP.: Gypsy
Considering the self-appreciation lead single Applause and the media-bashing duet Do What U Want with R. Kelly, Lady Gaga was set to attract the same amount of fame all over again with ARTPOP. We see Gaga at a rare love affair state with Gypsy, but it fades in comparison because unfortunately, she has always excelled with more energetic beats when it comes to universal appeal. The choice for this song is expressed through your love for it, but you should have explained it in a more general aspect rather than personal. By claiming that it is "the best song on ARTPOP", you are implying that the other songs are not that good, and you should not do that in a game where you're trying to sell the album as dope.
|

| Xedretinz Lododnz - Maroon 5 - V: It Was Always You
Before they started selling out with Moves Like Jagger, Maroon 5 was prone to more heartfelt songs and engaging topics. Midst the polarizing worlds, It Was Always You attracts Maroon 5's old enthusiasts with its still modern but nostalgic sound. Although the lyrical content is not a very universal topic like you mentioned in your essay - because I don't think that everybody has been through that particular situation - it comes off as honest and embracing. Introducing us with this track, plus the fact that the first two singles off V are very successful, it seems like you've got a nice album in your pocket.
|

| VDK - Little Mix - Salute: Salute
It's comically ironic that a group named Little Mix releases an empowering song where only one gender is being directed to, and they reinforce the universal un-mixing when they claim that they "don't need no man". Although the lyrics are influential enough for their female listeners, its anthemic beat and production are probably the most widely appealing factor, and the maturity delivered throughout the song is what sets them apart from most current girl groups. Since this is the introduction round, it was wise to give an idea of what to expect on the album, but I think you lingered too much on the description of their work instead of going more in depth about your choice. Not the worst start, just needs a little fix.
|

| sumthintoxic82 - Danity Kane - DK3: All In A Day's Work
Between the refined sound of Lemonade and the identifiable Rhythm of Love lies the overproduced and messy All In A Day's Work. Danity Kane has always put forth energetic beats, and they may have no problem to attract with this upbeat song, but unlike the first and second singles respectively, it lacks in a more well-construed production and in the relatability sector because of its inability to touch a subject that most would associate with. You stressed more on the genre of the song rather than explaining why it appeals to people, and even by doing that, it seems like you masked the same ideas under different sentences. Danity Kane made their comeback this year, so I hope you can show us why they need to stay.

Thank you Igor, you get it!!!!!!
And the judges and players who say that Salute immediately crosses out a whole gender, this round was to pick a song that represents THE ALBUM. Salute(the album) is literally full of songs (like 99% of Salute) like this that put the woman in charge. I really don't know what else y'all wanted. I think my essay said everything.
And 19th at Public Votes, how did that even happen.
