Katy's fans can blame her team or her label, but the truth of the matter is, she didn't want to saturate the market like Taylor did. She knew the success of Teenage Dream couldn't be replicated, and even more so, she didn't want people in the industry thinking her success was due to factors other than her music and popularity as a pop star. She sent a few cakes to radio stations. Literally....some cakes. That was her way of saying thanks for your loyalty. There were no extraordinary deals. She didn't take down the poor vocal performances of "Unconditionally." Meanwhile, what happened to "Blank Space" live at the Clear Channel concert? A day after it aired, it became a 30 second snippet. Her "extracted" vocal from the VMAs went away more quickly than BEYONCE links the night her album dropped.

I know you're joking, but some fans probably think that. She's never been a tryhard or a people pleaser.Prism is not akin to Bionic//Born This Way/My December/Try This where the fans are left wondering if it's over. The album spawned two gigantic hits (which is a huge feat for any artist) and she's been on a sold out world tour since.
"Peacock" is terrible. She got lucky when that was scrapped.
Don't search for reasons Taylor is doing better, Taylor is the biggest current pop star, she is currently overrated by people like Katy during Teenage Dream (Teenage Dream is great but no one actually believed she would have 5 number one singles..)
So proud of my country for stanning for This Is How We Do and not Birthday. Birthday peaked at #25 here, This Is How We Do hit #18. Also Birthday only scanned Gold (35,000 copies), whereas This Is How We Do is Platinum (70,000 copies). I heard it on the radio again yesterday, and they said the song name and artist both before and after the song played, which hardly ever happens anymore. So hopefully more people will buy it. It re-entered on the charts this week at #47.
