In Europe they are mostly in Cities living in some immigrant neighborhood. And no matter how many times Blacks keep saying that the shooting was racist and all that, we all know that kid (I will call him a Thug - either Black or White or Latino - like me) was shot because he was struggling with the Police Officer. It wouldn't matter if the Cop was Black. He is reaching for the gun and you better shoot it him off. The Cop did not say some racist thing and shot him. He was acting in self defense. But people can't past seeing skin color. Yes there are many injustice in the Black Community I know… but this is the wrong case to bring up it up.

I do not know the full background on the story but I was just saying that it was all over the news here as well. I was more about job opportunities, salary, housing, being followed in a store etc.

Yes, (I am originally Polish but living in the Netherlands) I will agree that probably all of Eastern Europe is (as in countries not people) is much more racist then the western part.

The UK is starting to get more isolated. More and more of the country wants to leave the EU for good- especially since we're one of the only economies in Europe that's now starting to do well- the EU wanted to charge us an extra £2bn in fees two weeks ago whilst everyone else was allowed to pay a smaller amount than the year before. There's also a lot of sentiment against Eastern Europe- Romania and Bulgaria in particular.
As well as that, there's a lot of tension with France about the immigrants in Calais that want to enter the UK but are stuck in France trying to enter illegally.
As a country we're not as bad as others in terms of racial/ethnic discrimination, but you can definitely see signs of unrest and anger.

I'm white so as said above, I shouldn't be speaking for other people, but I can tell racism still exists in a lot of places. It's just like homophobia: As a country we pretend we're super fine with it, but behind the scenes and individually, a lot of people still have a problem with it and are quite ignorant.
It's a lot better in larger cities though, where there's more diversity. In smaller towns there are barely people of other races.
I have some good friends that are black/asian and they don't really come across racism that much in the city. But ofcourse I don't know the whole story

In (american) english, we call your nation Turkey. But, turkey is also the english common name for this bird. It's what many americans eat for Thanksgiving. It's not chicken at all. Totally different species.

Im white, but my ex-boyfriend whom I met in Germany was Turkish. We were together for almost two years and there was only one incident when some bitter old woman told something rude to us. Well, stupid people are everywhere. Other than that, we were fine.

I think we arent really. There are some prejudices against Roma people because of their bad reputation, but when people see that they dont make problems, noone has problems with them.
But I cant judge this objectively. Are we really treating you so badly?

I'm really not too sure about all the details either. I know Michael Brown may have been guilty. But the police did use too much force/too many shots fired. It's overkill. But the reason the event was such a huge spectacle was because it was in a sense the straw that broke the camel's back. These instances of overt police brutality happen VERY OFTEN in the USA. They always have. and whether it's a guilty person like Michael Brown, or an innocent man like the one shot in south Carolina just for following the police's orders. It's the sad reality for african-americans. Rodney King, Trayvon Martin, etc. You really can't understand it unless you live here tbh.

I used to have a friend in Czech Republic who was a HUGE stan of Whitney and MJ. He knew more about them than I ever did. He hated it there though.

Istanbul isn't the capital?!?!
.. Anatolia is a pretty name though, y'all should dump Turkey and adopt that one officially. Much nicer.
Having a Ministry for EU affairs would happen regardless of if you were trying to join or not though, the UK has Ministers for Europe, The Middle East, America, etc. Just easier to have one department responsible for that area.

I live in the USA. Born in Pennsylvania and raised in NYC. Half Puerto Rican and Half Colombian. All over the news are USA Police Brutality, but I have seen and read it happened to White people too. And any other person who tries to resist arrest. Just because they are White doesn't mean the Police is not going to beat you up. I know this not the place to bring this up but I can find dozens of cases towards Whites and Latinos as much as I find about Blacks been victim of Police Brutality. Or you can just do a Google or youtube search. Be my guest. But Black people here and elsewhere making this about race issue. He attack the Cop and he had it coming. I think it may have been overkill to shoot so many shots but he may have done it if he was a White Thug as well? How do you know that is not the case?
The Rodney King beaten is nothing compare to this Michael Brown case. That was Police Brutality at its worse.

I knew it! Before I even clicked the thread I knew they would start doing this.
Racism is not spoken about in Europe. People act like it doesn't exist, meanwhile Mosques are burned down in Germany, Italians are throwing bananas at their black soccer players and Dutch people are holding on to blackface for dear life.
I'm Moroccan so I get ignorant questions all the time. It's not like they don't know the answers already, they just wanna test me and let me know they don't agree with my culture and religon. Their reactions are always so fake and try hard. Thing is, i'm not religious so I don't get to watch them do that lame **** anymore.
The racism here becomes a problem when you're looking for a job, especially if you're a guy.

My mistake. I thought you were european.
I can find many examples of it being disproportionally more focused on black folks, at least in the south (where I'm from). History plays a huge role in this whole issue. Socioeconomic factors too. It takes a village to raise a child. Michael Brown (and those like him) didn't exactly come from paradise, even if it is the USA. Heck, for all we know there are many more cases that happen in Ferguson alone that simply don't get as much attention. If it seems like black folks always make it about race, there's a reason for it.
I really don't even feel the need to go into that much detail about it since most people here already know anyway. Things are changing. But scars from the past still linger. Until true equality is achieved (if ever in the nation), these kinds of incidents are going to be likely to trigger these outcries. It's only been 50 years since legal segregation 'ended.' Scars from these things don't go away overnight. How ironic that the USA fought the holocaust yet at the SAME TIME still oppressed its own citizens.

Im of Italian heritage and when I was in germany with a few of my girl friends (they are white but look like an arab/latin mix, not white at all, strangely enough) and we asked directions people straight up ignored us. they were so incredibly rude. That was in Düsseldorf. I hear good things about Berlin though. People of color or who are latin & mixed approach me more than whites.
