A number of artist are leaving Spotify because they are not getting paid, and so people will either buy their CDs or Downloads. First was Taylor Swift, and it was HER decision, NOT her labels. Jason Aldean has followed suit, and there are rumors of more artists leaving ahead, Maybe streaming is not the future and sales are not dead yet.

I was actually impressed with Taylor's statement about pulling her music from Spotify. She may be basic as hell, but she seems a smart girl and cares about her fans at least.

She earned my respect because of that, actually. I will buy her album as soon as I can just to support her. Hopefully more artists will follow suit.

OK, I don't care either way (I don't have spotify, i'm ambivalent on Taylor), but how does pulling her music off spotify means that she cares about her fans? Isn't Spotify the easiest way for her poorer fans to listen to her music legally?
She pulled it off because she wants more money and records. That's not a move that screams I care about my fans, that's strictly business and money hunger to me at least.

She got less than $500k from Spotify this year. That isn't enough when you get more than $12 million from a 1,200,000 debut. It clearly does not scream she cares about her fans, but she definitely cares about the current sales' climate. If labels want to keep physical albums going and digital as well, they gotta find new strategies and Spotify won't help on that.
