The reason nobody cared was because that was a sign of power in hip-hop. Jennifer Lopez may have been the only major female using others' vocals, but just about every urban act would use vocals from a different artist and they wouldn't credit them (credits were done for revenue distribution and not chart achievements/integrity like they are now).

Sis, are you deaf? That is Britney Spears singing, she just has a backing choir who are all credited on the liner That's like saying Madonna didn't sing "Like a Prayer" because a choir shows up in the song

Ester Dean can be heard BELLOWING on the entire TTT album. I'm not even sure Rihanna sang the chorus of Farewell or Where have you been
I had no idea I just looked up the vocal stems and:

Sis Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Deborah Cox, etc. were all things back then. Vocals were considerably more important then than now
Wait wut can someone confirm all those songs' hooks aren't really sung by the artist?
Ashanti confirmed she sang Ain't It Funny's remix chorus.
Other examples of Jlo not singing her own choruses: Love Don't Cost a Thing, Ain't It Funny original version, Jeny from the block, Play, I'm Real original and remix, get right, and the whole Jlo + Remix album.

Are you saying that other urban singing acts used uncredited vocals or other rappers? It's different if it's a rapper because you obviously know it's someone else. Getting someone who sounds like J.Lo to sing her choruses is fraudulent.

WAIT!! I just replayed all those choruses in my head and they do sound different but I so hear some JLo in the choruses she sings over their choruses no?
Britney/myah marie teas. So....do y'all think that one blind item from years ago can be JLo?
What blind item?

Yes, but rappers were generally credited (it was usually female singers who went uncredited). I agree that what J. Lo did was fraudulent (I wish she would've just sung the chorus herself, it's not like she didn't sound the exact same as the people singing). I'm not defending J. Lo at all (I never liked her) but I'm saying people were understanding because that was an actual thing in a lot of hip-hop. Unless a female attached was profitable or could push the song with their name, they were usually left out so the other artists could collect more revenue.
Who cares? Easter Dean sings the Super Bass chorus and is Nicki's most successful song.
Wait!!! I never knew this but I just heard the song again and YES it just sounds like Ester Dean I would've never thought about it if I wouldn't have come to this thread

But J.Lo is not a hip-hop artist, never was, and never will be. She is a pop star who collaborated with hip-hop artists and made urban music.

Girl just listen to Nicki's singing voice (Starships, Va Va Voom) and the voice singing Super Bass chorus, of course it's not the same person
I don't think is Britney tho I always thought it'd be Jlo but now that I think about it didn't they clarify is not J.Lo? and it made it seemed like the girl on the blind wasn't as big and then got bigger and britney started HUGE since album #1.
She didnt sing the chorus herself on number of tracks, including non album singles, for example Ride or Die chorus was mostly sung by Brandy only.
These singles she did not sing the chorus herself:
If You Had My Love
Play
Aint It Funny (Original Version)
I'm Real (Original Version)
I'm Real (Remix)
Aint It Funny (Remix)
I'm Gonna Be Alright
Im a huge fan of J.Lo, and i really dont mind it at all, i actually think it makes the songs sound even better, especially Aint It Funny the original album version, the change of voice tone in the chorus actually makes it really catchy and good.

But what Ester Dean's doing in those TTT tracks is what she's credited for, background vocals. Some people tried to drag Rihanna for "We All Want Love" because Ester can be heard on the chorus, but she's only doing background vocals while Rih sings over them, unlike Jlo. Jennifer's voice is nowhere to be found on these tracks' choruses
But J.Lo is not a hip-hop artist, never was, and never will be. She is a pop star who collaborated with hip-hop artists and made urban music.
Which other urban singers used uncredited vocals?
J. Lo tried to portray herself as one and her demographic/fanbase were significantly more "urban" than other pop girls.
Another good examples would be like Usher's "Superstar" with Faith Evans. Let me go look up some more.
Also, here's a pretty cool article if you want to read about it in the era of Motown: http://noskipsnoscratches.com/?p=1439 The Q&A section is hard as **** and I got 0 right I also know KISS used to session musicians who would basically play the music for their albums

The problem is they clearly edited Ester Dean's voice to sound just like Nicki, much like they did to make her sound like Rihanna on WHYB. I just don't get why these artists don't redo the vocal line since it already sounds so much like them and should be incredibly easy to replicate.
