20. Death Magnetic by Metallica
Billboard 200 Peak: #1 UK Albums Chart Peak: #1
Top 5 Tracks: 1. The Unforgiven III
2. My Apocalypse
3. The Day That Never Comes
4. All Nightmare Long
5. The End of the Line |
Starting off the countdown of the top 20 albums of 2008 is Metallica with their long-awaited 9th album "Death Magnetic". Metallica are most remembered to music fans for their classic tracks "Nothing Else Matters" and "Enter Sandman". But tracks like "The Day That Never Comes" makes them household names onced again around the World, proving that they are not just old metal cases. Five singles have been released all in the matter of a year. My favourite track off the album has got to be "The Unforgiven III". A third installment or follow up if you like of the classic "The Unforgiven I & II". The track is just pure rock gold, and probably one of the only metal songs on my iPod that I would listen to over, and over again.

19. 3 Doors Down by 3 Doors Down
Billboard 200 Peak: #1 UK Albums Chart Peak: N/R
Top 5 Tracks: 1. It's Not My Time
2. Citizen/Soldier
3. Let Me Be Myself
4. Your Arms Feel Like Home
5. She Don't Want The World |
The next album in the countdown is by Mississipi rockers 3 Doors Down. This was the fourth album in the collection of 3DD releases. I'm more of a sentimental rockers me. So I like a good Power Ballad, and 3 Doors Down really do deliver on this album for both rockers, the sentimental rocker and the hard rocker. You can have a good sob to Your Arms Feel Like Home or if you're feeling angry jump right on to Train or These Days. It's Not My Time is the biggest song off the album for me. It reached #3 in my chart and went onto stay for 23 weeks. It has an amazing chorus and Brad's vocals are flawless, showing off his raw, crackly voice onced more in a blinding rendition.

18. Rockferry by Duffy
Billboard 200 Peak: #4 UK Albums Chart Peak: #1
Top 5 Tracks: 1. Mercy
2. Delayed Devotion
3. Distant Dreamer
4. Stepping Stone
5. Rockferry |
Finishing off the list tonight is Welsh songtress Duffy with her debut "Rockferry". Duffy has quickly became one of the biggest found talents of 2008. Duffy shot straight to the big time in January '08 with her debut "Mercy". It reached #1 for 5 weeks in the UK Singles Chart knocking off Basshunter's Now You're Gone and being knocked off by Estelle's American Boy. It became a Worldwide hit and made Duffy a house hold name. Duffy's album is a mix of 60's jazz-pop being revamped for the present day. On each and every song, her voice is sublime, no words can describe this talent. Let's hope it carries onto the new year.
