These appraisals are perplexing amid a wave of feminist ideology rooted in the idea that women own their bodies. It is the feminism of ****Walk, the anti-rape movement that proclaims a skimpy skirt does not equal a desire for male attention or sexual availability. Why, then, are cultural critics like Freeman and Petersen convinced that when Beyoncé pops a leather-clad pelvis on stage, it is solely for the benefit of men?

This!
I'm always kinda baffled by people bringing up her costumes and leotards... I mean... Bey goes on tour wearing this stuff and her audience is comprised of women and gay men. Let's be honest here, most straight guys don't go to see Beyoncé in concert, she doesn't really try to appeal to them. So how in the world is she benefitting of men by wearing a leotard, if they aren't even her target audience?
Of course some straight men enjoy watching her perform, but she's actually a good performer. Why assume it's because of her costumes? Are men incapable of seeing women as human beings if they're not completely covered? So ridiculous.
