College is 100x more interesting, in terms of the music tastes that surround you. Everyone likes everything, basically, but I'd say there's a lean towards Top 40 & urban/rhythmic since my college is near heavily-populated areas.

The key to finding out what music college kids are feeling is social media and PARTIES. Parties mostly play the urban hits by people like Kendrick, Chance The Rapper, and those type of rappers.

My experience of college tastes is either pure Top 40, a mix of urban and house, or 100% alt rock and really experimental, awful indie music.

OMG you're completely right. I forgot to mention the indie/alt rock purists, but they usually form groups and don't musically interact outside of that lol. They're very exclusive and niche-ish.
