They have not been overwhelmingly positive...there haven't even any 4.5 or 5 star reviews. They have been split between mildly positive and mixed.
I agree that the two have little chemistry and Gaga often misses the mark vocally when trying to sound too much like a stereotypical idea of what a jazz singer should be. They don't bring very much to the songs and, in most cases, reduce their jazz quality to that of your standard easy listening track Bennett sounds like he is in cruise control with little invested soul compared to his past work. I pre-ordered this album as a jazz fan and a fan of Gaga's pre-Artpop work and was extremely disappointed.
Certainly Gaga lends much of her vocal quality to Ella in many of the songs (ETWSG and LFTM&D in particular), but never does she sound overbearing or flat (only in Anything Goes does she sound borderline shrieky). Gaga also has an excellent sense of diction and wordplay throughout most of the album (Lush Life and Bang Bang in particular). I disagree completely when you say that they have little chemistry. You can tell they are having a blast throughout I Won't Dance with their flirty back and forths and But Beautiful is an excellent example of the pair's ability to hold back and display tender sincerity, reflecting on the heartache and celebration that is love. The only let down on the album is Sophisticated Lady where Tony fails to maintain pitch throughout, though the tone is a heartwarming response to Gaga's Lush Lady.
I'd give it a solid 8/10, but that's just my opinion. I'm glad you (kinda) explained your reasoning instead of simply saying "I don't like it."
P.S. when I said overwhelmingly positive, I meant an overwhelming majority of reviews have been positive.
And therein lies the problem. You guys have some serious maturing to do.
Take some notes from your fave who works hard to promote kindness and acceptance.
Which is ********. If I feel that someone's being hateful I ain't gonna be neither kind nor accepting.
Funny how you disregarded the rest of my post. Let me make myself clear:
I don't care if the album gets a 10 on metacritic and sells 20k or a 90 and goes 12x Platinum. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and we do accept that. They could give a 0/4 stars AND be taken seriously by actually reviewing and not liking the album, but that didn't happen. The writer decided to bash Gaga's personality and career while almost ignoring the album, kinda like you did with my post.
You got to be so pressed to give a 1/whatever to an album.
And you got to be so pressed not to accept the opinions of others! Maybe you should apply to be a critic, and I'm sure you'll give 5/5 to your fave despite mediocre work!

Oh pls dont enter this thread and act brand new lmfao, you only say that cause you stan for perry, lets put it like this if she has a new album and they decide to give her a bad review by not reviewing only the music, you would be annoyed too.

Not at all 'cause I'm not a blind stan. But giving a 1/4 just because Gaga's on it? That's a shame.
They would give a 4/4 to Adele (for example) if she would've been the one who released CTC.

Katy's highest is 61 (17 whole points below Gaga's), which is also Gaga's lowest so the kats are used to it.
