Her first album had some 90s-inspired hip-hop. But I mean, what else is there, really? When was the last time Mariah Carey killed a bunch of Star Wars aliens while jumping around to EDM? People are constantly trying to draw comparisons. Like they actually go looking for them. Ariana was smart to do an EDM song because it differentiates herself from Mariah. She doesn't want to be "the next Mariah Carey" - she wants to be "the first Ariana Grande." But if people go looking for comparisons with microscopes, then of course they'll find them. They're actually so much more different than they are similar.
You know the above makes no grammatical sense,right? And, sheeffortlessly shaded Nicki down with that Billboard #1 comment. You could visually see that comment sink in to Nicki, and her seething afterwards
