Britney is more popular because she is more controversial. Period. Not because she sells more records, or is more talented, or is a better performer. Both have talent. Both are gorgeous women. Both have a huge fan base that loves to compare the two together in a negative way.
How about everyone grow up, just like they did.

People need to accept that while Christina and Britney had similar backgrounds and their careers started in the a similar manner, they are both two very different artists and need to be treated as such. Britney is well-known for consistent catalogue of dance-pop hits, while Christina is known for her artistic sensibilities in pop music. Britney is known for her charisma on stage and her dancing ability and Christina is known for impressive vocals. Britney is known for collaborating with top notch dance-pop producers such as Bloodshy and Avant and Danja, while Christina has performed with legendary performers like Elton John and The Rolling Stones. Comparing the two is not reasonable because they make different music. Both have different strengths and weaknesses. Pop music is diverse. Although Spears and Aguilera may have started in the same place, they have taken different paths to where they are today and thus they are different artists.
That being said, I am sick and tired of people bashing Christina. I love Britney Spears as much as the next person, but to say that Britney Spears is a more respectable artist than Christina is absolutely inaccurate. Britney's comeback has been orchestrated by a group of very skilled professionals ranging from managers to producers to directors to choreographers. Simply put, the record label relaunched Britney's career because there was too much money invested in her to let her stop recording music. Fortunately for the label, Britney legally lost control of her personal life so she had to comply. Britney has had very little to do with her comeback. The most she ever did to keep her career was to keep the public interested in her with an incessant stream of increasingly-outrageous antics in the tabloids. Frankly, if she hadn't gone crazy, there would not be nearly as much interest in her as there is now. She has been responsible for her image, for better or for worse. However, from a musical end of things almost all of the credit for her new album should go to the producers and her management.
Christina, on the other hand, has integrity and credibility as a musical artist. She co-wrote almost all, if not all, of the songs on Back To Basics and was responsible for the creation of the album from its inception. It was her brainchild and she deserves credit for what she has accomplished. She is truly talented as a vocalist. She may not be as good of an entertainer as Britney, and I'm not denying that she has some issues. However, it is an outrage that fans of a woman who has little to no artistic integrity would bash Christina on the grounds of artistry. Britney doesn't sing live ever and gave one of the worst performances in the history of the Video Music Awards (which is really saying something) just over a year ago, yet Britney fans want to diss Christina's professional live performances? Britney once shaved her head and made tragic fashion choices day after day after day before she had a team of stylists planning her outfits, yet Britney fans now think its okay to call Christina a fat clown? Britney's new era is circus themed, an idea that Christina explored two years ago with the Hurt video, VMA performance, tour and Back to Basics album art, yet Britney fans accuse Christina of being unoriginal and copying Gaga when it has been made clear that Christina is inspired by Warhol and Nico? Britney fans compare Circus, one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year containing all new material, with a greatest-hits album only sold in one retailer and only containing two all new tracks? Please. The hate for Christina is generated because Christina's talent (which has been recognized by legitimate artistic organizations) threatens talentless pop music acts.
Although it may seem like I am biased towards Christina, please don't misunderstand my position. I like both Christina and Britney, but I realize that they are different and cannot be compared to one another. I am upset with hypocritical people who compare the two on artistic grounds and take unjustified shots at Christina. My goal with this post is to expose the Britney-Christina comparisons for what they are: bitter, childish and unfounded.

So? Britney has performed with Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, and Madonna, etc.
What a bunch of bull. Britney since BOMT has come up with the concepts for each video. Christina didn't start doing that until Candyman and even then it was a carbon copy of Toxic with the three different hair colors, etc. She has written a lot of songs from the start of her career, and has also showed her skills with the piano on "Someday (I Will Understand"). Britney is the only artist out of her contemporaries to write 3 songs on her own. "Everytime," "Someday," and "My Baby." Guy Sigsworth only did the musical production to "My Baby." Britney wrote "Everytime" herself. The other person credited helped her with the melody not with the lyrics she confirmed on Eurovision in an interview.
Oh and lol everything Britney has done with this album has been Circus themed. Christina only did that for three things. That's hardly exploring the Circus theme.
I seem to remember Christina fans comparing Britney's albums such as "Britney," "ITZ," and "Blackout" to Stripped, and B2B. Not taking into account the different times, economy, and promotion. So for you to say that we are comparing Circus to KGB is ridiculous. Most Britney fans have been comparing it to Britney's own GH album. Which she only did 2 videos for, and no other promotion. Chirstina is still promoting the GH.
Hell even Britney's limited edition release remix album has done better than Christina's GH. Which by the way Britney's remix album didn't have ANY promotion.

Although i really like Britney Spears' new album "Circus" (and i think it's a very good pop album, probably her best album ever) i have to say that your post is absolutely true. That is exactly what i think. And i could have written another article like yours about Miss Janet Jackson : i am so TIRED of everyone trying to bring Janet Jackson down since the superbowl while she definitely is the best female artist out there, and still the best dancer and the most daring.
Anyway, back to the topic, Christina Aguilera's Back To Basics is HER BEST ALBUM. It is far superior in terms of melody and quality than "Stripped".
Christina Aguilera really has grown up a lot as an artist. She is the good student who has learned from her masters and idols (Madonna, Janet Jackson). She is making thematic albums (like janet) and changing her hairstyle and looks (like madonna).
Now as for Britney, I think she has some little input into the decision making of which song she wants to sing or not. So this time, for Circus, one has to give her credit for the choice of the songs. Of course, she is surrounded by incredible people who have excellent taste in terms of "chosing the right song with the right beats that will really fit the radio stations".
And about her voice, i think she has a trademark voice. I mean, when you hear a song from Britney, you imediately recognize it is Britney. Her way of singing a song with that little cat voice of hers is, in a certain way, her best feature ! In the studio, she is a good singer, in the sense that, yes she has no diva voice, but she has a very distinctive kind of voice.
Now, she is no good dancer. She's a cheerleader dancer. Certainly not a daring and audacious and groundbreaking dancer as Miss Jackson.
Aguilera is not a good dancer neither. Britney's better than Aguilera in terms of dancing skills but Christina is much more varied than Britney because she has tried several types of dance in her videos (cf. candyman) etc.
Anyway, i am glad Britney's back and yes, Britney and Beyoncé's stans are tiring. But Britney deserves to be happy in my opinion.
As for her life, Britney needs to hang out with Janet more if she wants to avoid the Papps because Janet hides very well. Sometimes, she can even disappear for like 4 entire years...

This paragraph is too funny. You totally go back on yourself--you mention not being able to compare their albums because of the economy and such, when that is exactly why you can't compare the GHs. You can't ignore the fact that that it is 2008 and KGB was only sold through one retailer in the US. Britney's lack of promotion for MP was nowhere near as big of a disadvantage, considering her popularity at that point.

Yes we get it britney is more popular and and her music is more loved and people liked her better then Christina in the first place but seriously does that really matter at the end of the day

I am upset with hypocritical people who compare the two on artistic grounds and take unjustified shots at Christina. My goal with this post is to expose the Britney-Christina comparisons for what they are: bitter, childish and unfounded.

Your an absolute IDIOT. While you make some good points about Aguilera, you basically are calling Britney second rate, which is a total and COMPLETE laugh you moron.
QUOTE 1: At the "legendary" performers, you IDIOT Britney has performed with Madonna quite a few times, the QUEEN of pop, Michael Jackson the KING of pop, and Aerosmith. So to say that Christina has performed with these legends and ignoring Britney's performances with some is a COMPLETE bias' to Aguilera, though your trying to be "neutral" I believe Madonna isn't even a FAN of Aguilera after she tried playing the name game due to NO attention from that VMA performace.
QUOTE 2: Britney has ALWAYS been famous, even BEFORE her antics. She has always sold the most records, she has always had the most SOLD OUT shows. I believe Christina's AND Justin's tour TOGETHER was not filling up many arenas as numerous reports show. Britney has been the most searched person online for 7 out of 8 years. I believe she ONLY got crazy 2 years ago, so your saying people were bored of her 6 years before that? Your lacking of facts is disgusting.
QUOTE 3: I give you applause for that, but artists always "co-write" songs, we never know how much they REALLY write on them. Yes, Aguilera does have exceptionally well lyrics, but I believe that Britney has done her share of co-writing as well, doesn't mean she wrote every lyric, but to not MENTION that is pretty ludacris and bias, though your trying to make a point that your not.
QUOTE 4: Let's see out of Britney's ENTIRE career, she has had ONE bad performance, GIMME A BREAK!!!! She was hitting a rough patch, and should not have gone on, but for the sake of everything she DID. That was the ONLY atrocious performance she committed, unlike Aguilera's numerous performance, and you want to talk about the VMA's and lipsynching, I believe AGUILERA lipsynched her ENTIRE performance this year Britney has performed live a few times, but people are there to watch her ENTERTAIN, Aguilera supposedly HAS THE VOICE, Why does she need to lip then.
QUOTE 5: Christina only made that excuse because when she realized the huge resemblance she didnt want to be known as a 'copycat' hence the SUDDEN change of hairstyle and wardrobe choices ESPECIALLY at the AMA's when she went back to her 'B2B' look. Pathetic much? and I HIGHLY doubt Britney wanted to STEAL Aguilera's "theme". Obviously Britney knows she is the better of the two, sales wise, so I don't think she wanted to steal Aguilera's gimmick. and PLEASE Aguilera was NOT going circus themed except in ONE of her videos. The album cover and booklet was more like 50s 60s pinup and stuff.
ALL in ALL, I respect Aguilera and Spears, but if your going to make a NEUTRAL argument for the both, I suggest you show BOTH sides of the argument, and stop making yourself look like a fool!!!!!!

DEAD at the novels. You can get into the point without writing a book...
Circus's first week > B2B + Greatest Flops first weeks
#1 > #7
90 million > 40 million
After 10 years (9 for gaggy), Britney is the ultimate winner. Close this this thread now.
