There are a few reasons- some personal, some mutual, most petty. She's been trying to revive our friendship for a few weeks, but it's difficult when we live so far apart from each other now and the walls that were made prior to her leaving are still standing. I've only seen her once since she left and it was pretty awkward, to say the least.
but her mom is only asking me about a status my mom made on FB, so that's a relief.
Although, I'm sure she's about to send me a message asking about why I've been so out of touch lately/

It's hard because we were so close for the longest while, and I've yet been able to recreate that relationship with anyone else. Maybe I'll meet someone when I move into the big city for college though; I'm still young and have only met a few people.
