I remember there was a debate about this a few months back if Gaga's plan was to flop and sabotage the era as apart of her creative rebellion against the industry, while reaching, was really interesting. Remember when there was all this speculation that ARTPOP was about "the decay of the blonde pop star"? We thought it was the theme of the songs, but what if the bitch was talking about herself?
I don't think she wanted to sabotage the album and her image, but once Troy and Interscope """ignored her""" she was like "ok, i'll do what you want but I won't put any effort into it". When she released Applause and it was followed by all that negative press with the vs. Katy and the bashing for not being able to bring a Bad Romance 2 as the lead single, she knew the era was doomed, when people are against you for no reason you can't do anything.
Was just checking out the BTWB setlist. Look how dreadful the bolded part is. I swear I contemplated suicide.
omg @ you shading the double PUNCH of Electric Bible and Heavy Jesus Lover. I mean, I could understand why your wrists would itch a little having to sit through Bad Song and The Queef but otherwise omg @ the poor taste
I remember reading stories of people at the BRITs who said that, usually during performances, everyone is really rowdy and drunk, however everyone was in awe of that performance and silent
I still get chills from when she does DITD's bridge. Omg @ our fave being so talented in 2010. Now u tell me which other girl is owning a stage COMPLETELY on their own
As it is, I feel ARTPOP will be seen in Gaga's career as "just another album" while Born This Way will be considered her creative peak, and The Fame/Monster will be her commercial/popularity peak.
Me thinks that if Me. I Am ARTPOP: the Elusive Experimental EDM Disney Princess High Rising Phoenix was released in Spring 2013 like originally planned, it would've been successful and acclaimed, but not necessarily a peak in her career. For example, when Madonna released Ray of Light in 1998, she got a bunch of acclaim and increased commercial success. A little more than 2 years later, she released Music, which was just as experimental and acclaimed and successful as Ray of Light, but isn't as remembered as it's predecessor.
Nowadays, some Madonna fans consider the albums sisters, and like to compare and contrast them. I think that would've happened with Born This Way and ARTPOP had the original album been released.
A CURRENT hitmaker (poor Nadir and Paul!) AND his production credits on Mother Asia's discography are for all flawless sings. Not a Donatella or Bad Kids in sight!
Looks like we know who the next executive producer should be
DJ Snake, the under-the-radar Chanteuse. Get him in Gags, as long as he doesn't serve you a Turn Down For What sized mess
This performance is SO underrated. The way she twists the song from being about a carefree and nonchalant attitude to being one about loneliness and remorse, almost like the stages of intoxication. The way the subtle melodies are illuminated in a way which you can't even hear in the studio version. Plus the outfit she wore with the hair halo is sooo art pop.
"Just Dance... when I scream your name, and you don't call"

Yeah, but she had that "Gaga is a flop, don't buy her music" video filmed before Applause even dropped to witness the Katy success comparisons and average reception to the single. She was ahead of it all, it's like she knew it would happen. And the song leaking in snippets and dropping on the same week as Katy's new single was just asking for those comparisons to arrive.
I still can't at her being so upset that her label / team wouldn't allow Aura as the lead, she created a fake account and leaked it herself. Bad bitch.
Would have been interesting to see Aura as the lead ... Wasn't the single leaking and bachlash over the lyrics one of the biggest internet searches of 2013?
The fact that Hair peaked higher and has sold more than "G.U.Y" is interesting. Everything she did back during BTW really did smash.
Everything she does now...Well, let me keep it cute
Hair does slay though.
Well, it's a promo single released before the album that benefited from pre-orders. Look at Walking On Air, outpeaked Birthday and TIHWD worldwide. And in what world did everything during BTW "smash"? The masterpieces Judas and MTN say hi. Y&I was also local.
Venus, Dope most likely and even Gypsy has outsold G.U.Y. Gypsy is currently charting higher on POP iTunes as well.
Aura would've seen the top 10 just because it was Gaga's lead single, but the GP wouldn't be here for it like they were for Applause which was a success cause it was catchy and wasn't off-putting. Also, radio would've NEVER touched Aura like they jumped on Applause.
That being said, Aura is one of my favorite songs on the album.

Gypsy actually responded really well to promo and cracked the top 100 a few times, I think. It really should've been a single it's also the better song.
****ing incredible. So minimalistic but so striking. It's just her and her piano, her vocals and persona shining through. I honestly believe you could use this performance as an example of an iconic and talented performer in music.
