I was just listening to this yesterday and I never noticed the weird backing vocals, they slayed. That's what Gaga needs to do next era, hide the weird vocals to the back of the mix Gaga.
It's really amazing how simple and one-note ARTPOP is compared to BTW. I mean, the productions and layers of songs like HML, Highway Unicorn, and Bloody Mary are on an entirely different level than anything on ARTPOP. I really love ARTPOP, but as a follow up to BTW, it's a major, major disappointment.

In a certain place of mind, I can bop to Jewels N' Drugs And if anything, you have Mary Jane Holland to blame for Brooklyn Nights not making it on ARTPOP. I agree that MJH won though, because it's an amazing song and a great segue into Dope, with the two sides of marijuana.

I even learned to like Brooklyn Nights, but somehow I always prefer the stuff she did release on an album, instead of demos, b sides, rejects.
Not drunk anymore (oops!) but yeah, she's my girl and I'll always defend ha.
The SXSW was such a highlight of my time here. I felt like, for once, everyone was bounded together and found something truly magically underneath all the grit and grime of that performance. We had that, Brooklyn Nights, the keystone, the promise of a new music video. Such a fun and exciting time!

But I mean, during BTW she kept semi-distinct image/style for each single era. With ARTPOP, it seemed like she had a new look every week.
I think that shows how she was either A insecure and looking for her "destination" or B: trying to pump out as many looks as possible to show the ART in ARTPOP. But personally I think it's A, she's been having so many ups and downs that I think her clothes and the many changes reflected it.
