I wouldn't go that far, it's interesting to see people who are better at one compared to the other. Like Tamera last year, she nailed the room audition but cracked under the pressure at the arena auditions. It's also fun when someone unexpectedly does better simply because they have an audience to vibe off.
What? I mean Sam Callahan who was mentored by Louis, and the other Sam (Bailey) was mentored by Sharon and yes, last year was the worst since 2008 (Leon Jackson winning over Queen Rhydian )
2010 they really pushed for 1D but it was too obvious and there was a backlash, hence 3rd place. Plus, the huge backing track made it too hard for them to have a wow moment.
They tried Cher but she wasn't very likeable back then, even with her great performance of Stay (which was one three true wow moments of the series). At the very end they switched to Rebecca and tried to make out she'd become more confident (aka had a journey ) but she was so starstruck by Christina Aguilera no one took it seriously.
I always felt they didn't want Matt to win but they never tried to stop him. When you look at the voting figures he dominated, and his performances of First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Nights In White Satin were amazing. When you look at the public vote there were huge spikes for him. Still, they only really acknowledged him as the winner after he performed his winners single (which was great btw), and even then it seemed more resigned than happy.

I liked the arena auditions because the expose their flaws. They could be great in the room auditions becuase they don't feel as pressured but the arena auditions gives you an idea as to who'll be able to perform under pressure and who's not ready for this.
