I don't know why Cry. would be about Tommy when the speaker (i.e. singer) is obviously still hoping for the relationship to work. I can so relate to that song, when you're in a relationship and y'all are at an impasse and you really just need to get together, talk it out, cry, etc. It's not exactly a negative song (thought there are some negative emotions there, of course), so I really think it's about Nick.

I truly believe Music Box would of have been one of her best albums without interference from Tommy/Sony

I mean Everything Fades Away and Do You Think Of Me are the two of the best songs from MB era and one was a bonus track in Europe and the other didn't even make the album, I WISH we could get all the other tracks from MB considering Walter said Mariah wanted Music Box to sound more like Emotions than the Pop/AC album we got

I'm happy that she chose 'Hero' for the album after all. This song is everything. 'Hero' is what makes the Music Box album so exciting for me. 'Do You Think Of Me' is cute and all but yeah... MB is perfect as it is. Praise the lord and his ways

I just rewatched Mariahs interview with Matt Lauer and its obvious Cry. is about Tommy. She says Cry. is a retrospective about why a relationship did not work. Can't be about Nick since shes still with that genital herpes infected leper

Poor Mariah She's been going through separation while being pressured to release her album, receive criticism for performances, album sales and weight gain, etc. If it's true what sources are saying, that Nick is
'concerned about her mental health', he is an even worse husband than I thought. You don't leave when there's a bump in the road. You stick with that person and WORK IT OUT. We don't know all the details, but this just reminds me of interviews of Mariah saying she's 'never really been in love' and 'never truly trusts anyone'. I can't believe Mariah gave him so many years and also the greatest blessing in his life, their kids. This is so sad, I hope she is okay. I hope she still goes on tour, it could be therapeutic for her to receive LOVE from her fans, i.e. what Sissy wrote.

Aa much as I love/hate hero I think it should not have been on music box. I think she souldve waited to the era was almost over and repackaged the album with hero the made it a single. Thats and extra 10 million copys sold!. I also think she kept in the same direction. No one would've wanted two of the same albums back to back. It would have shown no growth. If you think about it none of her albums sound alike. Up until the wbt rehash.

I entirely agree with feelslikeadream even though he wants to divorce me. What she thinks of Tommy she made clear with "Side Effects": He is "weak", "violent", "dead wrong" – and she wants nothing but to break free from the "private hell" that she built with him, her "enemy".

In "Cry.", however, she wants to overcome the struggle with that very someone whom she still loves ("my love"). She wants to "kiss (him) soft and feel (his) hands on (her)". She looks retrospectively at what seems to be the beginning of their relationship and admits her own mistakes: She "didn’t give (him his) space back then" but she couldn't help herself because she was so in love, "truly too enchanted". I really doubt she would write and sing something like that about Tommy.

I've been wondering why she chose "Cry." as the opening track but it does set the tone for the album. It makes sense to me know: She is willing to "break down and cry", to reconcile with him ("Cry.", track 1) but he seems to have moved on already, he's "always somewhere but not there" at home with her ("Faded", track 2). That pretty much seems to sum up the situation they appear to be in.

Ever since the album was released I've also wondered how Nick feels about it. I mean, he knows best what songs, what lines are truly about him and their relationship. Of course he knew that people would wonder and might even ask him about it, too. I am admiring Mariah for her courage to release an album that honest. The art of letting go.

I can't even imagine how she feels right now. Not only that the marriage with the love of her life is over, it is ending really ugly and unworthy, too. She probably asks herself how she could be so mistaken about somebody, how someone whom she's loved so much could do this to her. Doesn't it ever stay, must it always fade away?
