Ariana's hardly a nobody at this point now. And the fact is that the B-listers are outperforming the A-listers (sans Taylor). Perhaps they wanted something new? But it's apparent from TIHWD, Pretty Hurts, the Beak 2 Beak era, etc. that being a-listers doesn't make you invincible like it did in 2011.
All those girls outsold her album in their first 2 weeks and are still much bigger than her.

One thing is for sure, it didn't take her 7 albums to receive a #1 album.
I don't think she'll be around too long if she doesn't step up her game though.
Debuting at #1 means nothing tho. Its not even close to Platinum.
