Hmm according to oldbloke at UKMIX, Rude has sold 2.17m versus SWM 2.13m; in 2014. Not a huge difference, but negates your opening sentence. Plus Rude has been a streaming monster, a component that will dominate the future. SWM came available late, I know, but the withhold also obviously didn't benefit it none since the sales match said 'disgusting single'. Plus I don't think MAGIC! performed Rude as much as Sam did his song. Definitely not more than he did the week of his album release week (also got blocked there
).
So with all that, it comes down to my original comment - SWM isn't #1 worthy in terms of general feeling. And not worthy in terms of Billboard points either, apparently.
Latch is still awesome, though. And Safe with Me.
They are clearly slaying this year!!! 
I Actually think that Black Widow could reach #1 next weeks Taylor & the VMAS would impact Billboard im exited!!
