Right, but that glorification of her has nothing to do with whether recording 17 videos secretly for an album with 44 collaborators that you're also keeping secret and then releasing it through an iTunes deal that you also kept secret is risky.

You being annoyed with Beyoncé stans doesn't have anything to do with whether that campaign was a risk. It was a calculated risk, but it was obviously a risk.

And you saying it was the "least competitive" part of the year is blatantly false. If every other pop girl hadn't flopped to hell and back, it would have been a lot more competitive.

A big star dropping an album out of the blue kinda equals a big star coming off a huge era. Both are extremely front-loaded and both work in any way possible even if the music's bad. Prime examples: Bestialité & Born This Way (except here the music was good).

The main reason why it was a risk is because she waived a lot of the safe-checks that go along with an album release.

-Release a radio friendly single
-Check the radio for receptiveness
-Feel out the public perception
-Change the single if it's not warmly received
-Start a promo campaign to push the single
etc.

Her hardcore fans could have bought and that could have been it. Obviously that was her intent anyway. As she put it, "From me to the fans". So I guess you COULD argue it wasn't a risk because she wasn't aiming for the public at large.

"Probably won't make no money off this...oh well."
