My heart goes out to everyone in Ferguson, who have put up with this systematic abuse for so long and their voice is finally heard. While we mourn the losses of Mike Brown (and subsequently Eric Garner), their passings have galvanised the African-American community and brought to light the malpractice committed by the Police Force.
Its also really saddening how they're attempting to suppress the information the residents are trying to send out. & how it took that damn President how many days to address the ******** happening in Ferguson, the boomba!.

but BRUH, you don't know how thankful i am to my Parents they never considered living long-term in America. being a black male, of any age but mostly a youth, must be the hardest **** ever.
yet we don't REALLY help ourselves when we outchea comparing obsessing over "darkskin vs lightskin" when our fellow males are being gunned down, completely innocent.

This is why black people fear the justice system. Of course there are those situations where arrests are lawful and warranted, but as a black person you never know. As a black person, especially a young black male, he could be walking home and looking "suspicious" and end up dead, in a pool of blood because he was "resisting arrest". What many people don't realize is that many of these victims "resist arrest" because they truly haven't did anything to justify them being arrested. Of course you're always supposed to comply with an officer of the law, but at the expense of your basic human rights being violated? Of course someone is going to "resist" arrest when they genuinely don't know why they're being targeted in the first place. Of course someone is going to "resist arrest" when they're just exercising their rights as a United States citizen.
Eyewitnesses have stated that Mike Brown wasn't even resisting and was surrendering peacefully with his hands in the air. If he's in this position he's at no threat to the officer so it doesn't warrant him being shot 8 times in the back and killed. To make matters worse, after being murdered, he's callously subjected to lying in the middle of the street, uncovered for hours. That's really what humanity has come to?
There's nothing wrong with protesting peacefully. I understand the law having to be forceful when it comes to the looters and aggressive protesters, but it's gone beyond that and it's clear that at this point it's just an abuse of power.
I pray justice is served, and I don't agree with the looting, vandalism, etc, but I do hope something is done because this has been going on for too long. How many innocent black men have to die before there's some type of reform? I would like to, one day, raise a child that I don't have to worry about dying at the hands of a police officer because of the color of his skin. I want to raise a child in a world where he or she has the same basic human rights as a child of any other race or ethnicity. I pay tax dollars like any other US citizen and for that reason I should be treated as their equal. Instead, my voice isn't being heard and I'm not being represented. The oppression, institutionalized and systematic racism has gone on long enough.
I think about my brother and his friend who were walking home from a bar in Valdosta, GA (the same city where the police are trying to conspiring in the Kendrick Johnson case) one night. He was stopped, without reason, and tased 7 times. He was arrested for "resisting arrest" and "obstruction of an officer". He didn't do anything. "Coincidentally", the case was dropped because the officer had a history of similar cases and because he was mentally unstable. My brother could've been Mike Brown, Eric Garner, or Oscar Grant. This **** happens everyday and it's brushed under the rug so it's allowed to continue to happen. Enough is enough.

i love you so much. if after this post, people dont get why we, black people, do/say a certain things in regards to the justice system in the US, then they will never get it. Racism is still well and alive

Same. I'm reading more about it and people's responses on Twitter and I'm just getting so furious. Its really depressing how long things like this has been and no progress has been made. Police brutality especially with POC needs to stop. There needs to be more rules and regulations. How many more innocent black men need to be killed by the police? My brother could be next.

Now see
I'm ready to join the revolution. Assuming we're in the midst of one. You guys deserve a fair life, a good life. It sickens me that you have to live that way.
Not to get too off-topic but reform in the justice system is just one of a few things that need to happen.
As soon as white supremacy stops being taught in school and all school systems, at every level of education, provide equal opportunity... The whole country will feel a profusion of productivity and progress. I guarantee.

Innocent unarmed black teen was shot atleast 10 times by white cop. No Arrests made or names given. The teen's body was left in the middle of the road for hours. People began to protest. Others decided to riot and loot. Police have banned all media and are arresting or attacking those who record anything. They have tanks, guns and armor. They're attacking peaceful protesters with rubber bullets and have also thrown them in neighborhoods. There is also video evidence.

This is why people distrust and hate police. Because **** like this happens every day and nothing is done to stop it. Are they really surprised people are pissed off? That people are tired of this ********? That they're angry and feel the to lash out and riot? They shouldn't be. I don't condone the violence or looting. They should indeed protest peacefully but the police seemed to even have a problem with that as they were shooting them rubber bullets.
It's amazing 50+ years after the civil rights movement, we are still being treated this way. It's incredible. And this is allowed to happened undeterred. It's like the government doesn't want to see it.
sn: here's a really good article talking about the violence in Ferguson: http://www.salon.com/2014/08/12/in_d...american_dream

Watching all these hoodlums loot and riot is disgusting. I understand that they're upset and all but the way to get people to think higher of you is not to loot stores and walk around with guns late at night.

Only because this isn't getting the attention it deserves. If this was as nationally covered as, and I mean shoved down our throats, the death of Robin Williams, I think more riots would happen. At least a bunch of protests.
And I'm not saying we are. I'm just saying that if it comes to that, I won't be locking myself in my house. I would gladly join in and do what I can.

A young black man was shot by a white police officer 8 times for no good reason. The department's story keeps changing. First it was because he resisted arrest for petty theft he didn't commit, then it was because he tried to assault the officer and take his gun which eye witnesses say did not happen. He surrendered completely, unarmed, and was still shot anyways. 8 times.
Then his body laid there, unattended to, for four hours.
This enraged citizens and they began protesting.
This is where it gets hazy. Either violent looters and rioters started vandalizing and making a mess after peaceful protests started and caused law enforcement to get aggressive or the unneeded aggressiveness of the militarized police made the protestors even angrier and caused the riots.
While terrorizing the town, the police have confiscated local business security footage, journalist footage, civilian footage. They've thrown tear gases, rubber bullets and grenades at crowds, houses and businesses. They've restricted entrance into the town, restricted low-flying air travel and kicked out news reporters. They've arrested two journalists in a McDonalds for not clearing the area fast enough. The officers arrested them without giving them their badge information or a reason why they were being arrested. One of the officers slammed their head against the glass while cuffing him and sarcastically apologized.
The department's chief tried to excuse the incident and officer by saying it was "probably someone who didn't know better."
On top of everything, the armor trucks ran right over the on-site memorial for Mike Brown (the victim)

Well, if you kept reading, you'd see she say she doesn't condone the violence or looting but she respects their right to be angry and outraged.
So.

And here we go with all the condescending looting criticisms.
Of course it's not okay but none of this should be about the looting. It's distracting from the real problem.
