I always feel so uncomfortable when people use for something serious.. it's really not right.

It's probably "socially ideal" to not use emoticons of any sort.
Can you imagine receiving a mass text from a friend, letting everyone know that his or
her aunt died, and you replied back with, "So sorry to hear that. " Awkward.
Why don't you guys install a system where you put people on the "troll list" (a list of known and obvious trolls who contribute nothing to the site) and they have sufficiently less leeway and it takes them a lot less points to be banned? I don't know, based off the things Retro tells me that you guys have problems figuring out (he doesn't really tell me anything too specific. Just little things he'll mention to me when we're hanging out IRL or something off of ATRL), I figure it would be an idea to consider. I'm not sure how you guys take to ideas (super sorry if I'm over-stepping any boundaries, btw).

I don't know if I like that. What would happen then is that anyone with a negative view about a celeb would be considered a troll (by atrl standards).

You would have to be marked as a troll in more than one aspect. And I feel like anything that straddles the line between troll and not would fall into the not side, since it would be unfair if they were just coming slightly off in that way.
