And I started booking her for things - I put up fliers, I started a Facebook and Twitter, I got her a boot at one of our local road shows and at the local fireworks demonstration. Things were actually going well, but then, she just lost interested and didn't want to do it anymore.

It seems like that's what Troy was doing for Gaga this era. He was guiding her direction, telling her to do things that he thought would rebuild her brand into something new and exciting (which, honestly, probably would have). He wanted to take her career in a new direction, but Gaga wasn't having it, so she fired him. Stupidest decision she'll probably ever make tbh, because Troy new what he was doing. He probably had so many things planned for this era that were lost and abandoned once he was fired. The entire technology aspect of this era, the stripped/minimalistic fashion, the marketing ... it's like the minute he was fired, Gaga ditched it all and reverted back to her old self.

Makes me wonder if she'll ever be able to evolve and keep re-inventing herself, because it seems like she doesn't want to, and this business, especially for someone in her position, it's completely necessary.

Earlier this year you were blaming Troy for the ARTPOP Era being a mess and now you're praising him. What is wrong with you?

Actually, Troy got greedy and made deals behind Gaga's back and that's why she fired him. He was the one responsible for the miscommunication and breakdown of Gaga's team when the single was switched from Venus to DWUW. Was DWUW a better choice? Absolutely, but what Troy did was have the song changed last minute without giving anyone any chance to plan. He then left and provided no support for Gaga and her team after causing the switch. He got greedy, he wanted more money, and Gaga told him to **** off. The stupidest decision she has ever made was listening to the fans who cried for her to be "fun" again and constantly tried to tell her what she "needed" to do, because fans know absolutely nothing.

Gaga did everything by the book during this era. She listened to the label, she made the changes they told her to make, and she followed by the rules. It wasn't until after Troy ****ed her over that she turned to "**** POP MUSIC, THIS IS ARTPOP" Gaga because she felt betrayed. It wasn't until after Troy ****ed her over that she went on that rant about being controlled by the company. She did everything in her power to keep the wheels on the wagon so to speak after Troy left her and the team to fend for themselves. However, you can only go so far because the wheels you duct taped together finally fall apart, and that's what happened so after.

She was forced to go back to the drawing board and start over. That was when she and her new team decided to plan for the artRAVE and the GUY video. And what do you know, both of those things went off without a hitch. Sure, GUY flopped, but the small promo plan, the video release, the video itself, and everything surrounding it was the first time since Troy left that everything felt "organized" and "put together". Just, like, stop talking about stuff you know nothing about, and stop blaming Gaga for **** the woman had no control over. Gaga wants to be a popstar and she wants to do the best she can, but with fans like you who are never happy, she's not allowed to be either of those things. Just move on if you're not happy.

Like that FarmVille **** was so corny and I'm sure it made them both some $, but that type of dumb stuff can really taint a brand in the long run IMO. His vision of marketing ARTPOP like a prestige indie movie also sounded kind of stupid and potentially ineffective. In the end it's all on Gaga's creative power & her A&R. If she comes up with smashes she's going to do good. If she comes out with some wack **** like Applause things are going to go south no matter how she's being managed.

I think Applause it qt & crazy, but you have to admit it tainted the era. She could have went in a cooler, more mature direction as a counterpoint to Katy's kidzbop ****, but instead she did a Bowie imitation & put that "Koons is me" line in there. That line is fun to quote, but it really did her no favors at the time.

Applause really isn't what's wrong with the era though. It was everything behind the scenes that kind of screwed things up. Sure I wouldn't want her to release another applause, but the David Bowie homage, the crazy kooky lyrics, make the song. I'm more surprised that people in the U.S ate the song up rather than the people WW. Which I really think all they needed was more performances and promo for it.

Now,lbr, they're both pop divas that released around the same time. They were going to be compared no matter what. Katy's audience are kids & Wal-Mart customers. Gaga's audience is/was people who tend to like more alternative, sophisticated pop (Roisin Murphy, Fever Ray, La Roux etc. are her soul sisters). She's the anit- popstar popstar with a big platform. She could have capitalized on that image. There's a market there for people who want bops without the cheesiness and corporate-ness of a Miley or a Katy, or the snoozyness of a Lana. Applause is strange, but the problem is that it edged into being cheesy, and almost parody-like.

Now, now, I love our girl, but believe me when I say Applause was just not the business. What helped was the sheer fact that she was coming back, a radio deal & that terrible hamster commercial. It's her worst single since Judas.

Yeah, Applause was the only good thing about the era. DWUW could've been a big hit too if she had released a video for it and actually done some good performances.

I mean seriously, she couldn't put together a quick video after that whole fiasco? The self-sabotage was real
