UN relief agency spokesman bursts into tears over deaths of Palestinian children.
A spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which provides aid to Palestinians in Gaza, broke down in tears during a TV interview in the aftermath of Wednesday’s fatal attack on a UN-run school, used as shelter.
Twenty people were reportedly killed after a shell hit the UNRWA school in Jabalia, Gaza, where 3,300 people had been taking refuge.
Chris Gunness, a spokesman for the UNRWA, was unable to check himself while giving an interview to Al Jazeera Arabic the same day.
Quote:
“The rights of Palestinians, even their children, are wholesale denied,”
The official said before breaking down sobbing in front of the camera.
"There are times when tears speak more eloquently than words. Mine pale into insignificance compared with Gaza's,”
Gunness said, as cited by Reuters.
In a promptly-released condemnatory statement, the UN said its evidence suggested Israel was behind the attack.
“Children killed in their sleep; this is an affront to all of us, a source of universal shame,” the statement read.
5. Why are people asking for Israel to end the "occupation" in Gaza?
Because they have short memories.
In 2005, Israel ended the occupation in Gaza. It pulled out every last Israeli soldier. It dismantled every last settlement. Many Israeli settlers who refused to leave were forcefully evicted from their homes, kicking and screaming.
This was a unilateral move by Israel, part of a disengagement plan intended to reduce friction between Israelis and Palestinians. It wasn't perfect -- Israel was still to control Gaza's borders, coastline, and airspace -- but considering the history of the region, it was a pretty significant first step.
After the evacuation, Israel opened up border crossings to facilitate commerce. The Palestinians were also given 3,000 greenhouses which had already been producing fruit and flowers for export for many years.
But Hamas chose not to invest in schools, trade, or infrastructure. Instead, it built an extensive network of tunnels to house thousands upon thousands of rockets and weapons, including newer, sophisticated ones from Iran and Syria. All the greenhouses were destroyed.
Hamas did not build any bomb shelters for its people. It did, however, build a few for its leaders to hide out in during airstrikes. Civilians are not given access to these shelters for precisely the same reason Hamas tells them to stay home when the bombs come.
Gaza was given a great opportunity in 2005 that Hamas squandered by transforming it into an anti-Israel weapons store instead of a thriving Palestinian state that, with time, may have served as a model for the future of the West Bank as well. If Fatah needed yet another reason to abhor Hamas, here it was.

Such a great thing for them to do, Wish there were more like them.
You've been using this numerous times, what about the bombing of the UN hospital?
Did the Israeli government never oppress Palestinians? Or was that because of Hamas?
You can not come in with this 'Kumbaya' stuff and try to convince me
that Israel is striving for peace with some Miss Universe pageant answers.
Although I loathe Hamas, and believe they are using such inhumane and despicable tactics,
but other than that every claim like the ones on the cease-fire can and has been explained.
Israel and Israelis should be ashamed of this disgusting action. No justification in the World can excuse the murdering of innocent children and civilians
I know God will punish such despicable acts or there is no God
Israel, Hamas agree to unconditional 72-hour ceasefire
A UN-brokered 72-hour ceasefire has started in the Gaza Strip, the latest attempt to deescalate the three-week hostilities in the Palestinian territories, which have claimed over 1,000 lives.
The ceasefire started at 8am local time (05:00 GMT) after an hour of intensive naval and aerial bombardment in northern Gaza, as the Israeli forces seized the opportunity to hit their targets.
The agreement between Israel and Hamas to pause their hostilities was announced earlier by US Secretary of State John Kerry and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a joint statement
Quote:
“We urge all parties to act with restraint until this humanitarian ceasefire begins, and to fully abide by their commitments during the ceasefire,” the statement said.
“This ceasefire is critical to giving innocent civilians a much-needed reprieve from violence. During this period, civilians in Gaza will receive urgently needed humanitarian relief, and the opportunity to carry out vital functions, including burying the dead, taking care of the injured, and restocking food supplies,” Kerry and Ban continued. “Overdue repairs on essential water and energy infrastructure could also continue during this period.”
Israeli and Palestinian delegations will begin negotiations in Cairo for a more permanent ceasefire mediated by the Egyptian government. “The parties will be able to raise all issues of concern in these negotiations,” the two international leaders said.
A representative of Hamas independently confirmed the ceasefire agreement.
Quote:
Acknowledging a call by the United Nations and in consideration of the situation of our people, resistance factions agreed to a 72-hour humanitarian and mutual calm that begins... on Friday as long as the other side abides by it," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters.
"All the Palestinian factions are united behind the issue in this regard," Abu Zuhri said.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the IDF will complete the destruction of Hamas, no matter what.
"We are determined to complete this mission with or without a ceasefire," Netanyahu said at the start of a cabinet meeting in Tel Aviv. "I won’t agree to any proposal that will not enable the Israeli military to complete this important task for the sake of Israel's security."
UNRWA has made an inspection at the site. We have analyzed the crater, there has been crater analysis, trajectory analysis, we have examined the debris, we have examined the damage – and are confident enough to make a strong public condemnation of the Israeli army for this serious violation of international law, we are confident enough to make a public statement. It was indeed Israeli artillery which struck the school. We made 17 calls to the Israeli army, we gave them the precise coordinates of the school and we made it clear to them that there were 3,300 people at the school, so they knew very well where this place was, and despite that it still got struck. Which is why we’ve moved into the realm of accountability, we need to find out what happened.

And people say Israel needs to stop. Well, we stopped and guess what, Hamas didn't.
I'm not sure what's gonna happen next but good, it won't be and yet again, Hamas is to blame for it.

^^^^THIS. Why when you see pictures of bombs in Gaza youre running as fast as you can spreading your hate towards Israel, but when something like this happens?? nothing!
This happened today. just a few hours ago!
Both sides accepted to cease fire for 72 hours and obliviously just like last time they went in on us harder than ever. If you want to support the peace saying stuff like "F*** ISRAEL" is litarally the worst thing to say becase saying that is saying "F*** YOU" to the only side that can and will bring peace!

2 more soldiers were killed doing their job.
Meanwhile, 40 more civilians were just blown up for no reason.
HUGE support amongst Israelis for offensive in Gaza, 95%!
That is actually disgusting, how can the majority of Israeli citizens support blatant genocide. The IDF has been shown to be attacking innocents and bombing places like UN school not to mention the countless human rights crimes yet Israelis are still in support of it? Unbelievable
