Hmmm I don't see the double standard here.
If Katy Perry, Iggy, P!nk, Miley etc had a single cover squatting in a G-string & nobody cared, then yeah. But single over =/= sports illustrated swim suit models.

David Beckham covering his junk or posing from the side is the equivalent of this. Men never are allowed to spread or open anything in media. It's seen as feminine which is a WHOLE other argument for another day.

Have you ever seen the naked shoots for Sports Illustrated or ESPN? Men are allowed to show more skin than females without the backlash.

People can't let a female have her ass out without backlash since it's illegal to have body parts and show them unless it's on a high fashion, male orientated magazine or Vogue cover. Otherwise, you're instantly deemed a ****.
Had it been David Beckham butt naked for the cover, no one would care. Simple as that.

You literally just admitted that she released this for controversy and to get people riled up and talk about her single. Yet you're in here arguing about people getting riled up and don't get why it's so controversial and she's getting backlash that she's in a g string.
Wtf

I disagree that if david backham did that post or a single cover being completely nude he would go without backlash. There have been plenty of other male celebrities who have went full frontal (Michael Fassbender, Bruce WIllis etc.....) and they have received backlash for it. I do think men have a bit more leeway and chances to redeem themselves, however they just don't get away with everything either.
I think it would have been better if you compared her single cover to a male rapper like drake etc... However the thing is Drake nor Lil Wayne would be showing pics of their *****/ass cheeks on their single cover, which speaks volumes.

And with this post, I've read enough ignorance for the day.
At least on Monday I'll be bopping to Anaconda while everyone else will continue to be pressed over a single cover of a body part every human has.

At the end of the day, Nicki's only getting backlash because she's a BLACK female, period.

Really? Are you forgetting that Nicki Minaj is a rapper and not a pop star? I know she sold out at a point in her career and started to create pop music, but still. I DOUBT sane parents would let their children listen to her.

And Nicki is acting like she is some video ho or swimsuit model. She does this every time she is called out on some stuff.

Nicki didn't come in the game as a Disney star, so don't try to force her to act like one either.
|
You're right she didn't come in as a Disney star. She just called herself a children's doll, dressed exclusively in cartoonish outfits and wigs, made colourful videos, hosted American Idol (as wholesome as it gets) and was frequently seen on TV with some famous children.
I know she didn't sign up for it but is being a role model such a shock for a popstar? Like, "OMG WHAT? I AM A ROLE MODEL? You didn't tell me this would happen. It's not as if I ever looked up to anyone in the music industry before."

Those shoots usually have women too. That's a moot point and neither here nor there.
I can't.

You realize the slander Drake or Wayne would receive if they did that? Pretty moot.

What about other white female pop stars who received much worse backlash such as Madonna, Britney, Xtina and Miley? It has nothing to do with race. The cover is vulgar, point blank.

Not Drake
Any pop girl would get backlash for this type of cover (see: Miley) This is NOT an issue of race.

Yes she is a rapper. But is she known to the GP for that or for Super Bass and Starships and all that? It's not really the rap community having issues with this image is it? If it is, then you have a point. If it's not then don't forget that the last we really saw of her, she was a cartoonish pop-rapper.

There's MANY artists who don't want to be role models.
And okay? She was calling herself the Harajuku Barbie while rapping about putting her ***** on some sideburns.
She did Super Bass which had lyrics about panties coming off.
She's never been children friendly. Ever. Under any circumstance.
