Well, sex is a tough issue. In general, the discussion becomes too graphic. I can handle it, and a lot of my colleagues can handle it, but what happens is that the ad providers that keep the site running get mad about content and pull their funding. Other topics turn into a mess fast - some of us, myself included, would love for legitimate threads on hot-button issues like drugs and race to survive, but often those threads derail when someone is disrespectful or ignorant and dozens of other members react harshly. They become uncontrollable situations. For that reason, they are sometimes closed as a precautionary measure, but some mods will try to participate in such threads in hopes of keeping it going right if they take interest in the topic.
