I didn't mind that Jean was weak in X1/X2 as her story arc of growing and unlocking those psychic barriers to become dark phoenix was pretty impactful, I just wish bryan Singer stayed on X3, i'm sure he would of given the phoenix depth and the main plot line instead of being a shoved to the side and only used as tool for more action scenes.
But yeah Famke did a stellar job with what little she was given in X3.
