These are open worlds. They are just smaller.
Closed would mean you are stuck in your lot. You can explore these in great detail.
It's just smaller. But they are smaller, (as the explained) to allow more Sims in each neighbourhood to actually live outside their homes and not have empty neighbourhoods.

Wow those Mountains are SO much more High-Res than The Sims 4 omg

The Sims 4 uses smoother textures in order to provide more actual detail:


^ The textures are less detailed, but the graphics are much better. Look at the flowers by the tree. Look at the bushes. They look terrible. The Sims 4 did it better, and looks better.

When has a street ever looked so good on the Sims 3?



When has a house ever been so realistic on the Sims rather than looking boxy?



For me personally, I'd rather have a realistic and more detailed neighbourhood that's smaller, than a massive one that lack's detail the same amount of detail.

Just because a graphic has higher textures, doesn't mean it's better. The Sims 4 uses simpler textures yet uses better graphics.

sis, that is the low settings in the sims 3 you posted, you tried though
some aspects on the sims 4 were better than the sims 3 I won't lie but those could never justify all of the features they has removed

this game will have less longevity than TS 1/2/3 watch TS 5 will be released sooner than expected

semptember will be messy indeed and the sims 2 will remain un-bothered to the fan base

I would rather have a game with better aspects, with features added later.
Than a game with poorer aspects with more features.

I would rather have my game look and feel amazing with features that will come later, than a game that looks half as good but with more features.

I would rather my house look like this in the base game:

Both houses are modern, by the beach, and are surrounded by tree's. But I know what lot I'd rather play from the get go, knowing The Sims 4 has all these features to come and to know the Sims 3 has got them all.

Personal opinion I guess.
But The Sims 4 graphics are always better in comparison shots, so there isn't any use trying to say they look bad.

The Sims 4 is more cartoony but it still looks much better than TS3. So much smoother and they've put much more detail into even the little things.

The Sims 4 sacrifices Open World by having actual community lots. You know, Nightclubs, Shops etc? Actual places that Sims can explore and not disappear into a lot and you don't see them do anything.
That's not anything less. Its something different. You get one thing but not another.

I'm not going to judge a game based on things I don't know. Most fans prefer The Sims 2 and The Sims 4 is more like The Sims 2 than it is The Sims 3. I'd say that's listening to your fans.
Most fans didn't like The Sims 3. Look at any Sims 2 vs Sims 3 thread and The Sims 2 always wins.

EA definitely tried to make it more Sims 2, they just sacrificed a lot to do that.
It might be executed really well. It might not be. We don't know until we play.

Personally my favourite part is design lots and The Sims 4 is much better at making realistic houses than The Sims 3 (with MUCH better graphics).

Also, the Sims 4 doesn't have massive neighbourhoods. That doesn't mean you can't roam them like you can in The Sims 3.

Also notice in the first picture Sims actually live in their house while your not there? Not just walk into a house that you have to click on to see what they are doing.

The graphics and detail is so much better.

EDIT: Also, you can travel from world to world with only a short loading time in-between. Each Sim family can now explore more than they ever could. You can actually leave the Neighbourhood.

Also there are more Sims in the neighbourhood than The Sims 3. You get multiple Sims in just one location so it's actually busy.

Because those pictures of the promotional footage. Did you forget it's EA? they will try to sell us a product by showing us footage that looks way beter than the real deal.

! This is where I'm at. The additions are great and cool ... but NOT at the expense of the basic things they cut out.
