It's not like Stay was some sort of risky hit though. Not in a world that Adele had just slayed with minimalistic ballads like Someone Like You. Let's remember that like Dark Horse, Stay was not the first of it's kind, and also Dark Horse was only made a single when the public wanted it - I don't know if we can say they produced it to feed the radio if they didn't have an intention of it being a single, though I suppose all of Katy's songs in production are probably produced with the ear towards it being a hit.

It sold ~650k in UK and there are other countries not only these two But still it didn't sell 7.9M WW. This number includes streaming.
